Really big for the sport. It would be a great challenge. That’s a big, old boy. I doubt Brock Lesnar would take that fight, though.”

Paul Heyman not ruling out Brock Lesnar return to MMA

bjpenndotcom - April 1, 2017

In 2016, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar stepped into the Octagon for the first time in nearly 5 years to fight heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt at UFC 200. Lesnar’s return was one that was quickly criticized after he was given an exemption from the first three months of mandatory USADA testing prior to the fight. While USADA was quick to swoop in and begin testing the former champ at a high frequency, it wasn’t until after the fight that Lesnar was flagged for an anti-doping violation. In addition to his fight night drug test being flagged, Lesnar had a random pre-fight, out-of-competition sample flagged for banned substances as well.

Mark Hunt continues verbal onslaught of Brock Lesnar

bjpenndotcom - March 3, 2017

It has now been nearly eight months since former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt stepped into the Octagon together at UFC 200. In that fight, Lesnar was awarded a unanimous decision win after using his wrestling to take Hunt down repeatedly throughout the course of the three round scrap. Ultimately however, the fight was overturned to a no contest after it was revealed that Lesnar failed both a pre-fight drug test, as well as a fight night drug test.

UFC files to have Mark Hunt's lawsuit thrown out in court

Russell Ess - March 1, 2017

The UFC is looking to have Mark Hunt’s lawsuit against the company and UFC President Dana White thrown out in court. Following the announcement of Brock Lesnar’s failed USADA drug test, Hunt made it known that he wanted to be compensated for fighting another cheating opponent in his UFC career. Hunt first asked for half of Lesnar’s fight purse then changed his mind to demanding Lesnar’s entire fight purse that he received for his fight against Hunt at UFC 200. The UFC did not come through with Hunt’s financial demands and filed a lawsuit against the UFC, Dana White and Brock Lesnar.

UFC removes 19 fighters from roster

bjpenndotcom - February 10, 2017

Friday afternoon, news surfaced that the UFC had purged their active roster, removing 19 fighters from the promotions database of active fighters currently signed to the promotion. While some members of the list of released fighters are currently free agents, and could very well re-sign with the UFC, others have already announced their retirement, or have expressed no desire to return to the Octagon in the near future.

Frank Mir hopes to return to the Octagon in 2018, still wants Lesnar trilogy fight

Tom Taylor - January 24, 2017

In April of 2016, it was announced that Frank Mir had been notified of a potential USADA violation, and that he could be facing up to two years on the shelf as a result. In the face of this lengthy suspension, Mir seemed to be seriously considering retirement. In the months since this USADA violation was announced, however, he has changed his tune. In a recent interview with Australia’s Submission Radio, Mir explained that he’s itching to get back to the cage, ideally sometime in early 2018. And while he’ll be closing in on 40 by that point, he still believes he’ll be able to hang with the division’s best. The precedent is there, after all.

Mark Hunt: I didn't know Brock Lesnar was using PEDs before UFC 200

bjpenndotcom - January 21, 2017

Leading up to UFC 200, where former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar made his highly anticipated return to the Octagon after 5 years away from the Octagon, there was quite a bit of controversy regarding Lesnar’s USADA exemption that saw him evade the first several months of random USADA drug testing leading up to the fight. Despite that, Lesnar was tested multiple times between the time it was announced that he would be fighting, and fight night. Following his win over Mark Hunt, it was revealed that Lesnar had failed a pre-fight and a fight night drug test. While he is currently serving a year-long suspension for the infraction, Mark Hunt has been very outspoken regarding the situation, even going as far as to file a civil suit against Lesnar and the UFC over the matter.

Mark Hunt files civil suit against UFC, Dana White and Brock Lesnar

Tom Taylor - January 11, 2017

Last July, on the main card of UFC 200, Mark Hunt was given the tough job of welcoming Brock Lesnar back to the Octagon. In the end, Hunt was unable to thwart the former heavyweight champion’s long-discussed comeback plans, instead coming up short on the judges’ scorecards after being out-wrestled for three rounds. In the days following Hunt’s loss to Lesnar, news broke that Lesnar had failed a pre-fight drug test. Not long thereafter, it was revealed that Lesnar had also failed a second test taken on fight night. The hulking heavyweight tested positive for an estrogen blocker called clomiphene.

If you watched the landmark UFC 200 back in July of 2016, you may have noticed that returning former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar walked out to the Octagon in a Canadian Reebok fight kit. A quick look at the WWE star’s Wikipedia page, of course, reveals that he was born in South Dakota. He’s as American as apple pie. At least, he used to be. More recently, Lesnar and his family have relocated to a farm in the quiet Canadian prairie town of Maryfield Saskatchewan. Lesnar’s setting up shop in this tiny town – which is home to less than 500 people – is the reason for his walking out in Canadian colors at UFC 200. It’s the also the reason for his on-air appearance during a Monday night Winnipeg Jets NHL broadcast.
