Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez cuts deal, pleads no-contest to attempted murder charge

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has cut a deal, pleading no-contest to his attempted murder charge. It was almost two and a half years ago that Velasquez was arrested for allegedly pursuing and shooting at Harry Goularte, who was accused of molesting Velasquez’s then 4-year-old son at daycare.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is set to go to trial later this year. The former heavyweight hasn’t competed in the cage since a first-round knockout loss to Francis Ngannou in 2019. After that defeat, Cain Velasquez retired from MMA but has remained active in the world of professional wrestling. That was until early 2022 when the former UFC champion was arrested for attempted murder.

Cain Velasquez will be back at a UFC event and in the corner this coming Saturday. Velasquez is the former UFC heavyweight champion and currently remains free on bail after facing 10 charges, to which he has pled not guilty, which include attempted murder; shooting at an occupied motor vehicle or aircraft; three counts of assault with a firearm; three counts of assault with a deadly weapon; willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony.

Velasquez has been out on bail for nearly a year after spending months in jail following charges that included attempted murder. Part of the bail was Velasquez would have to wear GPS tracking. He must also comply with a protective order 300 yards away from the victims in the case and have travel restrictions.
