Cat Zingano rips disrespectful Amanda Nunes, eyes rematch
While Amanda Nunes may reign as the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, the only woman to beat Nunes inside the Octagon is none other than top ranked women’s bantamweight Cat Zingano.
When Nunes joined the UFC in 2013, she immediately went on a 2-fight win streak as she TKOd Sheila Gaff and Germaine de Randamie in her first two UFC scraps. The UFC game Nunes a step up in competition when the had her fight undefeated Cat Zingano in her third UFC fight. In that fight, Zingano picked up a dominant third round TKO win to snap Nunes’ 2-0 streak. Following the loss, Nunes has rattled off 5 straight wins, with her most recent being a 48 second KO win over Ronda Rousey last weekend.
Following her win over Rousey, Nunes stated multiple times that she knew from the beginning that she would dominate Rousey in a fight. With the win over Rousey, Nunes’ dominance as a champion could not be denied in the eyes of doubters.
On the heels of the fight, Cat Zingano wasn’t too happy with how Nunes acted towards former champion Ronda Rousey. Zingano took to Twitter to call out Nunes, and put the champ on notice:
I'm not petitioning a rematch yet @Amanda_Leoa I'll earn it. You're disrespectful of @RondaRousey & I detest you being ungrateful @ufc
— Alpha Cat Zingano (@CatZingano) January 5, 2017
While Nunes has been on a tear as of late, after the pair fought, Zingano dropped a 1st round armbar loss to Ronda Rousey in a failed bid at the women’s bantamweight title. Following that, Zingano took a year and a half away from the Octagon. When she returned in July of 2016, she dropped a unanimous decision to Juliana Pena, marking a 2-fight skid for the former women’s title challenger.
So far no word yet as to who Zingano plans to target en route to earning a title fight with Nunes.
