Chael Sonnen shuts down comparisons between Kayla Harrison and Ronda Rousey: “She has never made a dollar for the promoter”

MMA analyst Chael Sonnen has questioned those who compare Kayla Harrison with Ronda Rousey.

For the longest time now, Kayla Harrison has been seen by many as the second coming of Ronda Rousey. That isn’t universally true for every MMA fan out there, but it’s certainly been a popular thought.

At UFC 300, Harrison will finally get the chance to begin her journey to superstardom. She will make her debut for the promotion at the blockbuster event, taking on Holly Holm at bantamweight.

In recent weeks, the comparisons have begun once again, with Holm even downplaying them. Now, the aforementioned Chael Sonnen has weighed in on the debate.

Sonnen’s Harrison view

“There just isn’t any story here,” Sonnen said. “However many times Kayla has fought, she has never made a dollar for the promoter, and that’s a tough concept. I know that bothers Kayla on a personal note when people say that, but it’s not meant as an insult. It’s just meant to attempt to splash some cold water and bring somebody a little bit closer to reality.”

While some may not like it, people are bound to track the story of Kayla Harrison with great interest in the coming weeks and months. Whether or not she’s able to live up to the hype, though, remains to be seen, and you can bet Holly Holm will have her heart set on causing yet another big upset.
