Chael Sonnen steps in on short notice for Hector Lombard at SUG 3
SUG 3 just got a lot more interesting!
Just days after dropping a first round submission loss to Tito Ortiz in the main event of Bellator 170, MMA veteran Chael Sonnen has now stepped in on short notice for Hector Lombard to grapple with Garry ‘The Lion’ Tonon on January 29th in a grappling match at Submission Underground 3.
Sonnen of course is no stranger to grappling, recently competing with fellow UFC fighter Michael Bisping as the pair grappled to a draw, and even grappling against BJJ legend Andre Galvao at Metamoris 4. As the owner and promoter of Submission Underground, Sonnen is stepping in to grapple Tonon on just days notice after his original opponent, Hector Lombard, was forced to withdraw from the match due to his upcoming fight with Johny Hendricks at ‘UFC Fight Night: Halifax’ in February.
MMAFighting confirmed this week that the grappling match between Sonnen and Tonon will take place at Submission Underground 3 on January 29th in Portland, Oregon. The event will be streamed on FloGrappling, and will feature the following matches on the main card:
Dillon Danis vs. AJ Agazarm
Chael Sonnen vs. Garry Tonon
Jeff Monson vs. Gordon Ryan
Chad Mendes vs. Jeff Glover
In the main event of the event, Conor McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis will be competing against AJ Agzarm in a highly anticipated matchup.
