Chael Sonnen takes aim at ‘Scumbag’ Jon Jones over UFC 300 remarks: “This is a bad employee”

UFC analyst Chael Sonnen doesn’t seem to appreciate Jon Jones’ latest remarks.

‘Bones’ is currently on the sidelines healing from a pec injury. Jon Jones suffered the injury just two weeks out from facing Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 and was pulled from the card as a result. In turn, the promotion booked Tom Aspinall vs. Sergei Pavlovich for the interim heavyweight title.

The British fighter later won the interim championship by first-round knockout. While Tom Aspinall has consistently called to fight either Jon Jones or Stipe Miocic, it seems that the UFC likes the previously booked matchup between the legends. As of now, the two are expected to fight in late 2024.

However, Dana White attempted to book Jon Jones for UFC 300 in April. As of now, the milestone event lacks a main event, and they reportedly called ‘Bones’ about it last week. Due to his injury, however, he was unable to accept the chance to headline the card.

However, Chael Sonnen doesn’t seem to appreciate Jon Jones’ public comments about UFC 300. Speaking on his YouTube channel, ‘The American Gangster’ took aim at the heavyweight champion. In the video, Sonnen ripped into Jones, labeling him a ‘scumbag’ for exposing the fact that the promotion is scrambling for a main event.

Chael Sonnen rips into Jon Jones for comments about fighting at UFC 300

“I would just have absolutely no idea what goes through that guy’s head,” Chael Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel, referring to Jon Jones. “Like, there’s a level of stupid that’s really hard to achieve, right? I mean, it’s hard. And in fairness, I wouldn’t know. When would it be OK for Jon to claim that he was offered a main event at UFC 300? When would that be okay to claim?… So if he made this up, if this is a lie about 300, great job. First time you’ve ever done a great job. Great job.” (h/t MMA Fighting)

He continued, “But because it would be the first time, because that’s off-brand, I don’t think it’s what happened. I think he got a phone call. So now he comes out and he outs the organization. He just outs the organization, ‘Hey man, these guys don’t have a main event.’ “Daniel Cormier called him a bad employee a couple weeks ago. Very low hanging fruit. That’s not a tremendous insult. Yeah, I mean, my God — what he did here, if that call really happened, is so damaging.”

“…He didn’t say anything that could be helpful,” Chael Sonnen concluded, speaking about Jon Jones. “He only said one detail that could harm the company. They don’t have a main event and they’re scrambling… Daniel Cormier’s right — that is a bad employee.”

Jon Jones is far from the only fighter to speak about headlining UFC 300 in recent months. Recently, fellow heavyweight, Tom Aspinall revealed that he was offered a fight with Stipe Miocic at the event. However, the former champion declined.
