Last night, in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Houston, Texas, featherweight fan favorite Chan Sung Jung – better known as the Korean Zombie – levelled Dennis Bermudez with a first-round uppercut. It was a gorgeously executed punch, and a wonderful addition to his already lengthy highlight reel. The real significance of this win, of course, is that it marked the Korean Zombie’s return to the cage after a long hiatus from the sport, during which he partook in the two years of mandatory military service required of all South Korean men.

He did so against long-time featherweight contender and Ultimate Fighter runner-up Dennis Bermudez. Despite his long time away from the cage, the Korean Zombie looked incredible in his anticipated comeback fight, baiting his foe into a brawl, where he ultimately clubbed him with a beautifully-timed uppercut for a first-round knockout win. The ring rust that so many worried he’d have to cope with was nowhere to be seen.

Jung rode a 3-fight win streak into a featherweight scrap with Jose Aldo, which saw Jung drop a 4th round TKO to the featherweight champ in an inspiring performance that saw The Korean Zombie continue to fight despite dislocating his shoulder earlier in the night.

Ultimately, Emelianenko’s size and Sambo experience prove to be the difference maker, as he secures a key-lock armbar on Jung and gets the submission.

After a long stretch on the shelf, during which he fulfilled the two years of mandatory military service required of all South Korean citizens, “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung is ready to return to the Octagon. Though he’s called for a comeback fight with our very own BJ Penn, it was announced yesterday that Jung will instead return to square off with Dennis Bermudez in the main event of UFC Fight Night 104 which takes place Super Bowl weekend. Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com was first to report that the Bermudez vs. Jung fight was in the works.

Former UFC featherweight title challenger Chan Sung Jung is quickly closing in on the end of the two years of mandatory military service he was required to serve as a citizen of South Korea. Jung was most recently seen in action at UFC 163 in May of 2012, where he suffered a fourth-round TKO loss to Jose Aldo in his bid for the featherweight title. Prior to the setback, the Korean standout had scored three-straight stoppage wins in a row which included victories over Dustin Poirier, Mark Hominick and Leonard Garcia.
