The final UFC pay-per-view of 2021 went down on Saturday as the promotion returned to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for a stacked UFC 269 card. The event saw two titles on the line as Charles Oliveira was defending his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier. The co-main event saw Amanda Nunes return to bantamweight to battle Julianna Pena. UFC 269 ended up being a phenomenal card as in the main event it was Oliveira winning by third-round submission after being dropped early. In the co-main event, Pena pulled off a massive upset as she submitted Nunes to dethrone the long-reigning champ. Now, after UFC 269 here is what I think should be next for the four fighters involved in the title fights.

The opening betting odds have been released for a future UFC lightweight title fight between champion Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje. Oliveira submitted Dustin Poirier in the third round of their lightweight title main event that headlined this past Saturday’s UFC 269 card. It was the 10th straight win for Oliveira, who had beaten Michael Chandler by stoppage back at UFC 262 earlier this year to win the vacant title. With former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov now retired, Oliveira is the clear top dog in the world at 155lbs. ‘Do Bronx’ has shown he is an improved version of himself, and that makes him one of the most dangerous finishers in the UFC.

Oliveira’s submission win over Poirier in the main event of UFC 269 showed once again that he is the best lightweight in the sport now that former champ Khabib Nurmagomedov is retired. UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira issued a statement following his submission win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 269. Oliveira submitted Poirier in the third round with a rear-naked choke in a back-and-forth fight that headlined the UFC 269 pay-per-view. For Oliveira, he had to survive a tough first round where Poirier dropped him to the mat and nearly finished him with strikes. After losing the first round, Oliveira was able to use his grappling skills to win the second round. In the third round, Oliveira was able to get Poirier next to the cage, and then he was able to take his back skillfully and then tap him out with a rear-naked choke. It was an absolutely phenomenal win by Oliveira, who proved once again he’s the best at 155lbs.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for tonight’s UFC 269 event, a fourteen-bout fight card headlined by Charles Oliveira vs. Dustin Poirier. The highly anticipated lightweight title fight produced one of the craziest opening rounds in UFC history. Dustin Poirier was able to drop Charles Oliveira on two occasions and appeared to be cruising towards his much desired title win. However, in round two ‘Do Bronx’ was able to score an early takedown and road out the round on top while dropping elbows. Then, in round three, Oliveira was able to take the back of ‘The Diamond’ and promptly locked in a rear-naked choke to finish the contest (see that here).
