UFC middleweight contender Chris Curtis believes it’s time for him to get a main event.

‘The Action Man’ has had an interesting run since signing with the UFC on short notice in late 2021. Chris Curtis famously stepped in for Deron Winn, to face Phil Hawes that November. In the first round, he scored a knockout win over ‘No Hype’, and he hasn’t looked back.

Since signing with the company, the middleweight contender has accumulated a 5-2 (1 NC) record. Earlier this month, Chris Curtis returned to the octagon to face Marc-Andre Barriault. In Canada, he handed ‘Power Bar’ a split-decision defeat. Just over a week removed from that contest, Curtis has an idea for his next bout.

Speaking in a recent interview with MMA Junkie Radio, Chris Curtis called for his next fight to be a five-round main event. Now, the middleweight also specified that he had no issue with the event taking place at the UFC Apex. The venue itself has come under fire from some fighters in recent weeks.

Lightweight contender Renato Moicano recently came out and stated that “nobody” likes fighting at the UFC Apex. However, Chris Curtis has pushed back on that a little bit. In the interview, the middleweight stated that he enjoys fighting in the empty venue, and would love to compete there next.

“Everyone hates the Apex, I like the Apex. I have no issue with the Apex,” Chris Curtis stated in the interview, fresh off a UFC 297 victory over Marc-Andre Barriault. “I fought everyone you’ve asked me to fight, and I’ve done well against most of them. Let me main event an Apex card.” (h/t MMA Junkie)

He continued, “I’m totally happy. Let me main event an Apex card. I promise you, give me a five-round fight, and let me show you something great. My biggest weakness is that I’m so geared towards five-round fights. Three-round fights are kind of hard to adjust to. Give me a five-round fight and I will show you something magical.”

Beyond talk of a UFC main event, Chris Curtis had an announcement of his own. ‘The Action Man’ revealed in the interview that he was interested in moving back down to welterweight. But, if he doesn’t he wouldn’t mind facing Paul Craig next.

“I think next week we’re going to meet the dietitian and get my body scan done and see what everybody thinks about my weight and whatnot,” Chris Curtis concluded. “I have not made 170 pounds in three years, so it will be interesting to see what they say. I’m about to do that. But even at 185, there’s still [names left]. There’s Paul Craig, who’s right above me. I don’t really care who.”
