They will do so as part of the first MMA event promoted by Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions. Speaking at the final pre-fight press conference for this event, Chuck Liddell referred to this fight with Tito Ortiz as a “gamble.” Just as Ortiz has stated ahead of this trilogy fight, Liddell admitted that he will not be receiving a very big guaranteed purse, and that he only stands to earn a big payday if the pay-per-view performs well.

Ahead of this trilogy fight, we’ve seen several snippets of Liddell’s training, and many members of the MMA community are quite concerned about it, worrying that the 48-year-old Liddell looks alarmingly slow. Jason Parillo, one of the key coaches of Tito Ortiz, has seen this footage and had similar thoughts, wondering if Liddell might be attempting to give false impressions of himself ahead of the fight. That’s thanks to boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions, who will use this fight as a segue into the world of MMA. In anticipation of this event, which is sure to be a big one — whether its for the right reasons or not — Golden Boy Promotions has released an official event poster for it. This poster is most definitely a throwback, as it looks like it could just as easily be from an early-2000s UFC card.

Tito Ortiz is expecting to make some serious money for his much-discussed trilogy fight with Chuck Liddell, which is likely to occur in Oscar De La Hoya’s new Golden Boy MMA promotion sometime later this year. “I think Chuck’s kind of holding out, trying to make more money out of it, which it just doesn’t make sense because this deal is pretty much a cut and dry contract,” Ortiz said of the fight on Submission Radio (transcribed Jed Meshew for MMA Fighting). “We’re both partners. De La Hoya wants his 40 percent and me and Chuck Liddell get to split 30 percent. So that’s on complete revenue of the whole fight in general. And this is the whole thing that I’ve been waiting for for such a long time in mixed martial arts, to really make a difference, and we’re gonna do that with De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.”
