Many employees were laid off including UFC legends Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes, who held positions with the company following their retirement after competing in the Octagon. Liddell held a position as the UFC executive vice president of business development and with a title like that, the assumption is that there was a nice paycheck that came along with the job.

There has been quite a bit of buzz surrounding a potential return to competition for former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. There was talk from his longtime coach John Hackleman saying his blessing would depend on who the opponent is and Liddell himself did not give a definitive answer on if we will be seeing him fight again. There was also the lunch meeting between Bellator boss Scott Coker and Lidell. More speculation grew when Liddell posted a photo of him and longtime rival Tito Ortiz in a staredown photo they took together where Liddell said in the caption, “Why not?”

Bellator boss Scott Coker says he'll talk to Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes about comeback fights

Tom Taylor - May 10, 2017

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been given some real reason to believe that two bona fide legends of MMA could soon return to the cage. The first of these legends is former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, whose coach suggested he might make a comeback if the opponent and payday were right. The second is former UFC welterweight champ Matt Hughes, who recently explained that he’d love a comeback fight because he never wanted to retire in the first place. During the media conference call for Bellator 179, which will be headlined by a welterweight title eliminator between Rory MacDonald and Paul Daley, Bellator President Scott Coker was asked about the possible comebacks of Liddell and Hughes, and said his promotion is likely to talk to both.

Tom Taylor - May 8, 2017

Late last month, former UFC light heavyweight champion and bona fide MMA legend Chuck Liddell burst back into the headlines. It began when Liddell posted a picture to Instagram, which showed him in ridiculous shape – maybe the best shape he’s ever been in. It continued when, after ample discussion about a possible comeback, Liddell’s long time coach John Hackleman suggested such a thing would be possible if the money and opponent were right. “Just like when they first wanted him to quit and he wanted to keep fighting, everybody was thinking I was trying to push him to keep fighting, which isn’t true,” Hackleman said on a recent episode of the Anik and Florian Podcast. “But like I always said, it’s whatever is in his heart. 3 million bucks? Who is gonna tell someone, ‘No, I’m not gonna allow you to make $3 million, which is more than most people make in three lifetimes.’

Coach would let Chuck Liddell make a comeback, but only against the right opponent

Chuck Liddell is in incredible shape. No, really. Despite the fact that he’s been retired for years, the light heavyweight legend is absolutely rippling with muscle. In fact, it’s possible that he looks better than he did for much of his fighting career. All the proof you need of this claim can be found in one of Liddell’s recent Instagram posts, which shows him decked out in fight gear, flaunting a pretty mean six-pack. See this post below.

Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer had a front-row seat for this wild fight, and the buildup to it. During a recent appearance on The Pony Hour podcast, Buffer weighed in on Rousey’s demeanor during fight week. Contrary to her abrupt loss, he said she seemed to be very focused.
