Dana White has some choice words for CM Punk's haters

Tom Taylor - June 15, 2018

Last Saturday, in the first bout of the UFC 225 main card, former pro wrestler CM Punk stepped into the cage with Mike Jackson, keen to erase the memory of his disastrous MMA debut, in which he was thrashed to a first-round submission by Mickey Gall. Regrettably, Punk’s sophomore effort went no better than his first, as he was battered to a lopsided decision loss. In the wake of Punk’s latest lost, opinions on his MMA run have varied. Some admire his ambition and his heart. Others are more focused on the fact that he seems to lack the physical tools to cut in a cage fight. In the opinion of UFC President Dana White, you have to respect what the former pro wrestler attempted to do. If you don’t, well, you’re a “fucking idiot.”

Joe Rogan gives harsh assessment of CM Punk: "He doesn’t have physical talent"

Tom Taylor - June 14, 2018

CM Punk’s second MMA bout, which occurred on the main card of UFC 225 last weekend, was more or less a disaster for him. Though he managed to survive the full fifteen minutes with his foe Mike Jackson, he was out-classed from bell-to-bell, and left the cage looking like bruised plum. Over the course of his fifteen-minute fight with Jackson, Punk showed plenty of heart — enough heart to “fill the arena,” according to his foe. Yet the unfortunate side-effect of the fight going the full fifteen minutes is that it provided ample proof that Punk is not cut out for cage fighting.

WWE's Daniel Bryan thinks he could take Mike Jackson 'on the ground'

Drake Riggs - June 12, 2018

At UFC 225 this past Saturday, we saw the CM Punk experiment’s likely end. The former WWE star fought Mike Jackson in a losing effort. Of course, now that we’ve seen the ridiculousness of it all, it will prompt future questions for current WWE stars like Daniel Bryan…who was recently asked on an Instagram live video if he thinks he could beat CM Punk’s most recent opponent in a fight.

CM Punk explains why "no MMA fighter has an excuse for missing weight"

Tom Taylor - June 7, 2018

In the opinion of former pro wrestler CM Punk, who will take on Mike Jackson in the first bout of the UFC 225 main card this Saturday, fighters have no excuse for missing weight. Punk believes he and his fellow Chicagoan Belal Muhammad are all the proof of this claim that’s required. Punk, after all, expects to make weight despite spending the last two weeks battling a long and emotionally-taxing lawsuit. Muhammad, meanwhile, made weight for his June 1 bout with Chance Rencountre despite fasting through Ramadan. Punk believes that iff they can make weight through these challenges, anybody can.

CM Punk missed the UFC 225 open workouts due to "severe anxiety"

Tom Taylor - June 7, 2018

CM Punk did not participate the open workouts for Saturday’s stacked UFC 225 card, as he was dealing with anxiety issues. Speaking to the media shortly thereafter, however, the former pro wrestler assured that his anxiety will not effect him on fight night — just at it didn’t when he wrestled for WWE. He’s just not very comfortable training in front of a crowd. https://twitter.com/aaronbronsteter/status/1004510320377950208

Coach Duke Roufus says CM Punk has a quality that some UFC fighters lack

Tom Taylor - June 6, 2018

According to renowned MMA coach Duke Roufus, CM Punk has vastly improved since his failed UFC debut, in which he was thumped to a first-round submission loss by Mickey Gall. “Way better,” Roufus told MMAjunkie this week, when asked ho much Punk has improved since his bout with Gall. “The first [fight] is a roll of the dice. You’ve got to take a gamble and see how your guy’s going to react in there and deal with a real fist fight. That being said, Mickey Gall was a very tough opponent. It was a tough first out. But I’m glad he got someone like Mickey Gall because when someone will take the licks that he did and the setbacks and want to come back for more, I know he’s made of something special.”

Under the MMA Microscope | How big of a deal is card fight placement?

Drake Riggs - June 5, 2018

Regardless of what Dana White tells everyone, the numbers don’t lie. And the numbers say that the UFC’s pay-per-view numbers were not their best last year. But why is that? Surely putting on shows without your biggest stars like Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey are bound to do less than any other event(which they did), but they don’t go on every single card and when they were around, the buys for events that excluded them were still good sales wise.

CM Punk gets lawsuit settled, relieved to not be 'forced to work through concussions anymore'

Drake Riggs - June 5, 2018

It’s definitely not the situation you want to be in just days away from a fight. But that it was for Phil ‘CM Punk’ Brooks. The former WWE star, CM Punk was sided with by jurors today in his defamation lawsuit that was filed by WWE doctor, Christopher Amann for comments that CM Punk made about him on a podcast.

Belal Muhammad thinks CM Punk's improvements will surprise people

Drake Riggs - May 30, 2018

The return of Phil “CM Punk” Brooks is practically upon us. It’s been two years since we saw the ex-professional wrestler make his ‘intriguing’ debut at UFC 203 in Cleveland, Ohio. Unfortunately for CM Punk, it went about as poorly as it possibly could have. Charging straightforward at his opponent, Mickey Gall, CM Punk would get taken down almost immediately and lose the fight via first-round submission by way of rear naked choke without ever landing a single punch.

Joe Rogan thinks its "f***ing crazy" that CM Punk is on UFC 225 main card

Tom Taylor - May 23, 2018

The UFC 225 main card is absolutely stacked. Regrettably, there is one aspect of this main card that is a little controversial. Many fans are disappointed that it includes the sophomore MMA fight of former pro wrestler CM Punk, who is set to take on Mike Jackson.  The controversy, of course, is that Punk and Jackson both own 0-1 pro MMA records. While Punk is a huge name — and a figure that is almost certain to boost the UFC 225 PPV revenue — many fans feel he belongs on the undercard.

Ahead of UFC 225, Mike Jackson will be referring to CM Punk as "Phil Brooks" and nothing else

Tom Taylor - April 30, 2018

At UFC 203, which went down in September of 2016, former pro wrestling superstar CM Punk took his first steps into the MMA cage. While he showed off some impressive toughness in this MMA debut, the fight itself went pretty disastrously, as we he was mauled to a first-round submission loss by his opponent Mickey Gall. At UFC 225, which goes on June 9 in his native Chicago, Illinois, CM Punk will look to erase the memory of this disappointing MMA debut, as he takes on the dangerous Mike “The Truth” Jackson. As this fight draws closer, we can expect plenty of mic time from both Punk and Jackson. When Jackson is speaking publicly, however, don’t expect him to call his foe by his pro wrestling monicker. No, he’ll be referring to CM Punk exclusively by the name is mother gave him: Phil Brooks.

Anthony Pettis heaps praise on CM Punk, assures "he’s definitely gotten better"

Tom Taylor - March 26, 2018

From a competitive standpoint, CM Punk’s MMA debut was a downright disaster. Though nobody has ever questioned the former pro wrestler’s cojones, he looked every bit a novice when he stepped into the cage with Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September of 2016, and ultimately submitted to a first-round choke. While a blowout loss of this scale might have deterred a lesser competitor, however, Punk didn’t let it shake him from his goals. The former pro wrestler returned to the gym almost immediately after his loss to Gall, where he’s been working tirelessly ever since.

Justin Golightly - March 13, 2018

In the middle of the afternoon yesterday, CM Punk dropped one of his signature pipe bombs, only he wasn’t sitting crossed-legged on top of a WWE entrance ramp. Instead, Punk dropped news on Twitter that he’d fighting at UFC 225. While there was some rumors about CM Punk fighting Floyd Mayweather, let’s be honest: Fighting Mike ‘The Truth’ Jackson is far more likely and he’s been pushing it like nobody else. “I haven’t been in contact with [the UFC] directly. I have several close personal friends in the organization, including UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard and some other affiliates. We’ve had brief conversations, nothing is set in stone. For me, it’s just a waiting game. […] I’ve been in contact with his coach Duke Roufus. It was very small, but when I talked to him I told him I was going to smack his man in his face for talking a little reckless.”
