Phil Brooks, better known as CM Punk is set to make his Octagon debut at UFC 203 versus Mickey Gall. While many believed Punk would never step foot into the Octagon against any opponent since signing with the UFC in 2014, the former WWE star is ready to prove all his doubters wrong now that he is officially set to fight on September 10 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Its been over a year since CM Punk announced that he would be transitioning to MMA and entering the Octagon. Now, with Punk’s UFC debut finally set for UFC 203 in Cleveland on September 10th, the MMA world has been asking many questions in regards to how he will do. Gall spoke to Fox Sports to discuss the bout, as well as why he won’t underestimate Punk despite his lack of MMA experience:

The long awaited UFC debut of Phil Brooks, who is much better known by his professional wrestling name, CM Punk, is being targeted for UFC 203 in Cleveland, Ohio, according to Ariel Helwani. Helwani, who has created quite a stir recently with breaking news of UFC announcements before the organization tweeted on Tuesday, “Current plan at the moment is CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall at UFC 203, per sources. Far from a done deal but that’s the direction as of this AM.”

After Mickey Gall won his UFC Fight Night 82 scrap against Mike Jackson, it was announced that Jackson would fight CM Punk in Punk’s UFC debut at UFC 200. Shortly after that, Punk announced that he had injured his back and would no longer be able to compete at UFC 200. While so far there has been no update on how soon Punk would be able to return to the Octagon, Punk assured his fans that he would be making his UFC debut sometime soon.

While CM Punk is currently signed to the UFC, he has yet to sign a contact and receive an official fight date. After Mickey Gall defeated Mike Jackson last month, the pair were expected to fight at UFC 200, however Punk was forced to undergo back surgery, further delaying his UFC debut once again. Despite all of that, Punk will make his UFC debut once he is healed.

Earlier this month Mickey Gall made his UFC debut against Mike Jackson. Gall went out and submitted Jackson in just 45 seconds to earn himself a fight against CM Punk at UFC 200. In the days following the bout it was announced that Punk would need to undergo back surgery and would be out for 4-6 weeks. While the MMA world went into panic mode that Punk may not end up making his UFC debut, Gall revealed that the fight was still on, however it likely wouldn’t be at UFC 200.

At ‘UFC Fight Night: Vegas’ last week where Stephen Thompson scored an incredible 1st round KO over Johny Hendricks, Mickey Gall defeated Mike Jackson on the UFC Fight Pass prelims. With his win over Jackson, Gall was named as the man to fight CM Punk at UFC 200. Punk seemed to be thrilled, even picking up journalist Ariel Helwani. Unfortunately, several days after the fight it was revealed that Punk had to undergo back surgery and would likely be unable to fight at UFC 200. Despite that, when Punk’s back is healed in 4-6 weeks he will fight Mickey Gall.

Just several days after Gall’s win it was revealed that Punk had to undergo surgery for a herniated disc. As a result Punk would be sidelined 4-6 weeks however the fight with Gall is still on, however there’s no guess as to when.

Yesterday it was announced that CM Punk would be forced to undergo back surgery, and would be sidelined for 4-6 months. Immediately, the MMA world became concerned that Punk’s UFC 200 fight with Mickey Gall would have to be postponed due to the injury due to the fact that Punk wouldn’t have enough time to recover.

This past Saturday after Mickey Gall had defeated Mike Jackson on the UFC Fight Pass Prelims of ‘UFC Fight Night: Las Vegas’ Gall and CM Punk had their first staredown. With Gall’s win the pair would likely fight at UFC 200 in July, however things have been put on hold according to Punk.

Phil Brooks, better known by his WWE name as CM Punk will be making his much anticipated debut in the UFC against Mickey Gall (2-0). Gall who was awarded the opportunity to welcome CM Punk to the world of mixed martial arts with his first fight in the UFC just won his own UFC debut against Mike Jackson at UFC Fight Night 82. Gall made a big statement to CM in his fight, finishing Jackson in just 45 seconds in the first round with a rear-naked choke submission. Gall and Punk are expected to fight in June at UFC 199 or July at UFC 200. Oddsmakers were impressed with Gall’s skillset and have opened up the betting odds in his favor. As of this writing, Gall is the favorite at -300 with CM Punk the underdog at +230 at Best fight Odds.
