Earlier today the UFC officially announced that current UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz would be defending his title in the co-main event of UFC 207 against surging division contender Cody Garbrandt. Shortly following the announcement, “No Love” took to Twitter where he sent out the following bold message.

UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz (22-1 MMA) will return to action at UFC 207 this December in Las Vegas. “The Dominator” will defend his title against Cody Garbrandt at the December 30 pay-per-view event.

It’s no secret that UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and surging contender Cody Garbrandt don’t like each other. The two 135-pound fighters have been trading verbal shots for months – so much so, in fact, that it is starting to look like contenders such as TJ Dillashaw, Bryan Caraway and Jimmie Rivera will be skipped over to book the Cruz vs. Garbrandt grudge match. “No Love” continued the trash talk yesterday tweeting out the following picture of how Cruz will look following their anticipated fight, which has been rumored for December’s UFC 207 event.

This streak has led the stone-fisted Brazilian to begin campaigning for a title shot against reigning UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.

The rivalry between UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and top ranked UFC bantamweight Cody Garbrandt, has been a very public one. Since Cruz defeated Garbrandt’s mentor and coach, Urijah Faber, at UFC 199, the pair have sent verbal jabs back and forth. Following Garbrandt’s UFC 202 win over Takeya Mizugaki, he called out Cruz in his post-fight Octagon interview. With both men verbally agreeing to the fight, Garbrandt once again sent some verbal blows Cruz’ way. This time however, the Tweet was deleted, and later reposted without offensive terms.

UFC bantamweight contender Cody Garbrandt is hoping that an impressive victory at next weekend’s UFC 202 event in Las Vegas will earn him a title shot against Dominick Cruz. “He said he’s going to add to my concussion list,” Garbrandt said, referring to a recent Cruz interview with MMAjunkie. “That says to me like he’s going to try to go in there and kill me. He wants to do that, so I’m definitely going to make him eat every one of his words. He’s going to be eating through a straw for a couple of months after we fight.”

This past weekend at UFC 199, Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber had their highly anticipated trilogy fight nearly a decade after their first meeting in the WEC banner. Cruz ended up dominating the fight from start to finish, securing numerous takedowns, and even dropping Faber several times. After the fight Faber revealed that while he wasn’t ready to commit to retirement, he was going to take some time away from MMA. In addition, Faber told the world to watch out for some up-and-coming fighters out of his gym, including Cody Garbrandt.
