UFC welterweight title challenger Colby Covington will be back in the octagon this summer.

‘Chaos’ has been out of the cage since a heated bout with welterweight champion Leon Edwards last December. For Colby Covington, the fight was his first in over a year, last defeating Jorge Masvidal in March 2022. In the build to the contest, the former interim UFC titleholder mocked the deceased father of ‘Rocky’, and promised to send him to hell.

Instead, Colby Covington was dominated in the main event of UFC 296 last year. Immediately following the unanimous decision defeat, the welterweight contender revealed an injury. According to Covington, he suffered a bad foot injury early in the contest. However, names such as Gilbert Burns later cast doubt on the injury.

Speaking in a recent interview with Submission Radio, Colby Covington discussed his plans to return. There, ‘Chaos’ revealed that he wanted a fight with the aforementioned ‘Durinho’, as well as Stephen Thompson next. ‘Wonderboy’ is coming off a submission loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 296 as well.

Furthermore, the welterweight title challenger revealed plans to return in the summer. While Covington didn’t get specific with his comeback plans, he did say that it would “shock” fans. The welterweight then took aim at fans who were unhappy with his title shot last year, calling himself the greatest fighter at 170 pounds.

Colby Covington reveals plans for summer return after suffering foot injury

“Thankfully, it wasn’t displaced so I didn’t have to get surgery.” Colby Covington stated in an interview with Submission Radio earlier this week, opening up on the injury he suffered in December. “So yeah, there’s no displaced fractures, it’s just a time thing. Eight to 12 weeks of healing, and then probably another three to four weeks of getting my footing back, and being able to plant off of it. The last seven or eight weeks, I’ve been compensating just walking on my right foot.”

He continued, “So, you know I’m going to have to build up some strength on my other hip again and on the other side of my leg. From not having any pressure on it in the last two months. Thankfully, no surgery. I’ll be back in no time, summer for sure. I’ll be back ready to main event, headline, and do the biggest and best business in the UFC.”

“For sure, this summer, people are going to be shocked.” Colby Covington concluded in the interview. “It’s going to be the nerd apocalypse, there’s going to be so many f*cking snowflakes crying. Having all their nerd tears out there… I’m the greatest… So, I’m coming back stronger than ever boys.”
