Colby Covington shares x-ray evidence of the injury that hindered his performance at UFC 296
Colby Covington is sharing x-ray evidence of the injury that hindered his performance at UFC 296.
UFC 296 took place last December and saw Colby Covington (17-4 MMA) go down to defeat against Leon Edwards (22-3 MMA) in a welterweight bout. With the unanimous decision victory, Edwards would retain the UFC welterweight title.
Overall, it was a lackluster performance by Covington, leaving fans wondering what was going on with the fighter who was so keen to get his shot at the welterweight belt.
Well, Covington, speaking with ‘Submission Radio’ is revealing how he broke his foot in round one, which put him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the fight. ‘Chaos’ even brought x-rays, in order to substantiate the claim.

During the interview, Colby Covington shared the following insight into the fight:
“The result wasn’t what I wanted, it wasn’t my night. I broke my foot right away, and I couldn’t plant or explode off it to use the wrestling and pressure I planned to use. I didn’t want to disclose this information until I had the x-rays.”
Continuing the 35-year-old said:
“I knew straight away it was bad. It was the first kick I threw, it landed right on his elbow. He was in Orthodox, so I kind of got a little overzealous, and I wanted to rip a high kick towards his Orthodox side, cause I didn’t know if he would be defensively sound like he is from Southpaw … Haters will still find a way to hate on me for fighting 25 minutes on one leg while landing over a hundred strikes more than Leon!”
Well, perhaps the ‘landing over a hundred strikes more than Leon’ is a bit of an exaggeration, but Colby Covington is wanting all to know that he did the best he could while on one leg.
As for what is next for the often-controversial Covington, we will have to wait and see. With the most recent loss, ‘Chaos’ is currently ranked #5 in the UFC welterweight rankings.
