Cole Miller’s statement on fighting BJ Penn
American Top Team’s Cole Miller is now officially set to face BJ Penn in a featherweight bout on June 4 in the UFC 199 event at The Forum in California.
Miller stepped in with just over three weeks notice for the fight after Penn’s original opponent Dennis Siver pulled out after suffering an injury in training.
Miller was actually a contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter” season where Penn coached opposite of former rival Jens Pulver back in 20007. Miller was on Team Pulver but has always had a great deal of respect for Penn, a former UFC two division world champion.
Miller told FOX Sports via text message, “I’m grateful to BJ and the UFC for giving me the opportunity to fight a legend and feed my son.”
This will be Miller’s first fight in 2016 after his last fight with Jim Alers back in December. The fight ended in a No-Contest after Miller suffered a devastating eye poke from Alers and the contest was called off.
