Andre Pederneiras wants Jose Aldo to rematch “Artist” Conor McGregor next
Former UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo returned to form at last month’s UFC on FOX event in Calgary scoring a first-round stoppage victory over perennial division contender Jeremy Stephens.
The victory, which stemmed from a beautiful body shot, served as Aldo’s first stoppage win in five years and also snapped his two-fight losing skid.
The Brazilian standout had suffered back-to-back third-round TKO losses to current UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway prior to his win over “Lil Heathen”.
Now back in the win column, the former UFC featherweight champion and his coach Andre Pederneiras are hoping to book a rematch with former UFC featherweight and lightweight title holder Conor McGregor.
Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor first met at UFC 194 in December of 2015, with the Irish star emerging victorious by way of a shocking 13-second knockout win.
“We can try to angle for a rematch, because I really did think it was unfair and I think most people thought it was unfair that there wasn’t a rematch,” Coach Pederneiras told MMAjunkie. “But, as far as Conor goes, he isn’t to blame. He may have turned it down, but the UFC had the power to tell him to fight. And they didn’t.”
He continued:
“I think the first fight didn’t really represent what the fight could have been – unfortunately for all of those who wanted to see it. So I’d choose Conor. Even though I don’t have anything against him.”
In the build-up to their highly anticipated title fight at UFC 194, Conor McGregor took multiple jabs at both Jose Aldo and his country of Brazil.
Despite McGregor’s trash talk, Coach Pederneiras believes that Conor is a “good person” and is just putting on a show to help promote the fight.
“I think, behind that ‘artist,’ he’s a good person, who doesn’t represent the things he says,” Pederneiras stated. “He talks a bunch of crap to get attention and sell. Outside of that, no, he’ll respect you whenever you meet up with him.”
“I think that was that ‘artist,’ the way I see it. He knows he’s going to have to fight (Khabib Nurmagomedov) at some point. Since he knows that, why not start creating some chaos and start promoting it?”
