Chael Sonnen compares Conor McGregor to Mike Tyson in Evander Holyfield fight
In the main event of UFC 196 this past Saturday, fans saw Conor McGregor lose for the first time under the UFC banner, ending his 15 fight win streak. Of course, the bout took place at welterweight, 25 pounds higher than featherweight, where McGregor reigns champion.
With that being said, former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen believes McGregor’s performance at UFC 196 parallels Mike Tyson’s performance against Evander Holyfield.
Sonnen, who is an analyst for ESPN now, spoke about McGregor’s loss.
MMAMania has the transcription:
“From a historical standpoint — mentally — Conor McGregor fell apart. He cracked. It was just like watching Mike Tyson fold against Evander Holyfield and all the guys that have come before and after. Listen, when you stand up to a bully he will fade every time. Conor McGregor is a bully. Now, that’s the mental side.”
