Conor McGregor admits he loses “interest” and “stops full training” every time his UFC return gets pushed back
Conor McGregor is having a hard time staying motivated to train for his potential UFC return.
McGregor hasn’t fought since July of 2021 when he broke his leg in the trilogy match against Dustin Poirier. Since then, he has been rehabbing his leg and the Irishman appears getting close to a return.
On New Year’s Eve, McGregor announced he would be returning on June 29 against Michael Chandler, which UFC CEO Dana White later shot down. Instead, White has said he wasn’t even sure Conor McGregor will fight this year, which is frustrating for the Irishman as he says it has made it hard to continue training.
“I’m wrapping up this tour, I’ve got the St. Paddy’s Day festivities coming up, and then I’m gonna get back and regroup. I’m gonna test myself physical wiswe on the treadmill and go about the McGregor Fast way and get myself right back. I had a camp in Cannes, the South of France, I had a camp in Dubai where I had world champions training with me where I was hoping for a December date, then a January date. Then it keeps getting pushed back, then I lose interest and stop full training for a while. Not stop training, I will always train, but stop full training and drinking a little back. I’m going to go back and regroup,” Conor McGregor said to TheMacLife.
With Conor McGregor saying he needs to get back into full training it’s uncertain when he may return to the Octagon. But it isn’t good news for many fans that the Irishman admits he does lose interest and starts to drink a little bit as his UFC return gets delayed.
McGregor is 22-6 as a pro and coming off back-to-back losses to Poirier. Before the setbacks, he scored a 40-second TKO win over Donald Cerrone in his return to the Octagon after a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
