Conor McGregor asks ONE Championship to sign all cut UFC flyweights
Ever since Demetrious Johnson was traded to ONE Championship there was talk that the UFC would soon be closing the flyweight division. Reports came out yesterday that that was indeed the case.
Several flyweights have tweeted that they have been cut and Jarred Brooks was one of them as he told BJPENN.com. Several fighters are now out of a job and Conor McGregor knows someone who should sign them all.
You must now take all the 125lbers that have been let go, Chatri.
You talk all of this Martial Art and respect talk, yet your greed has directly cost more than half a fighting division it’s chance to earn income for their family.
Have respect @YODCHATRI.
Sign the division.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 8, 2018
You must now take all the 125lbers that have been let go, Chatri. You talk all of this Martial Art and respect talk, yet your greed has directly cost more than half a fighting division it’s chance to earn an income for their family. Have some respect (Chatri Sityodtong) @YODCHATRI. Sign the division.
ONE Championship seems like a logical fit given that ONE has a deep flyweight division and the smaller weight classes are the stars and draws in Asia. ONE just announced that they are set to do a flyweight tournament, so why not add some of the top UFC flyweights into the mix.
With “Mighty Mouse” Johnson already at the helm, ONE could have the best flyweights in the world hopefully attract North American viewers. However, flyweights weren’t drawing in North America.
Truth is, the UFC’s biggest star in McGregor cared to watch them and now has their back.
BJPENN.com’s Tom Taylor talked to Sityodtong about possibly signing cut UFC flyweights and ONE Championship does indeed seem interested.
“Many other flyweights in, I’m very interested, definitely,” Sityodtong told BJPENN.com at the Summit. “Already ONE Championship has the most stacked flyweight division in the world. I guarantee our roster is already better than the UFC’s flyweight division. But we definitely want to cherrypick and get some of the best UFC flyweights. That would be a dream come true.
If it’s really true that UFC is going to close down their flyweight division, then, of course, we will talk to all the top flyweights.”
