Conor Mcgregor takes aim at “interim featherweight champ” Max Holloway
Is former UFC ‘champ champ’ Conor McGregor plotting a return to the promotions 145-pound division for a rematch with Max Holloway?
The Irish star recently took to Twitter where he fired that following shots at the Hawaiian champion.
“Maybe ‘interim champ champ’ was just a step to far – Interim FW champ” – Conor Mcgregor
McGregor’s comments come shortly after Holloway’s decision loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 236, in a bout that was for the promotions interim lightweight championship.
‘Mystic Mac’ had actually predicted that ‘Blessed’ would have his impressive win streak snapped by ‘The Diamond’ last month in Atlanta.
McGregor and Holloway already have a storied rivalry. The pair first met nearly ten years ago in Boston, with Conor emerging victorious by way of unanimous decision.
The Irishman would later go on to capture the promotions 145-pound title, this after knocking out Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
While McGregor is no longer the UFC’s featherweight Champion, he never actually lost his title.
Conor was stripped of his featherweight strap shortly following his knockout win over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, a victory which had earned McGregor ‘champ champ’ status.
With that said, McGregor obviously feels that Max Holloway is nothing more than an interim champion to the promotions 145-pound division.
‘Notorious’ has not competed inside the cage since October’s UFC 229 event, where he suffered a submission loss to reigning lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
