Conor McGregor’s coach says “no doubt” McGregor will defeat Floyd Mayweather
Conor McGregor‘s striking coach Owen Roddy has largely been credited with helping develop McGregor’s impressive striking game throughout the course of his MMA career.
Roddy now faces the task of aiding the Irish superstar in improving his boxing leading up to his highly anticipated August 26th scrap with Floyd Mayweather at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, where McGregor will look to hand Mayweather his first professional boxing loss.
Ahead of the fight, Owen Roddy spoke to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour to explain why he has no doubt in his mind that his fighter will shock the world and hand Floyd Mayweather his first professional loss on August 26th:
“I have no doubt in my mind he’s gonna do it. I think it’s gonna be one of the most insane nights ever.”
“It’s a tall task,” Roddy said. “But if anybody could do it, Conor can. He shocks the world every time. Every time he fights he’s doubted, people are like, ‘You cant do this, you cant do that.’ We know what Conor is capable of. Conor does it every time.”
“I think he’s gonna put him away,” Roddy said. “I think he’s gonna KO him. I think it’ll take a couple of rounds. And I know my phone is about to explode, I’m sure. But look, Conor does these things. He does these exceptional things all the time. If he says he’s gonna go in and knock him out, I think he’s gonna go in and knock him out.”
As Roddy went on to point out, Mayweather of course is an unbelievably skilled defensive fighter, and while McGregor connecting with Mayweather on a knockout blow certainly isn’t out of the question, many wonder if McGregor will be able to land a knockout blow on Mayweather.
We will all have to tune in on August 26th to find out.
