Dana White scraps talk of Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone
Fans hoping to see former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor fight Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone next are about to be disappointed.
UFC President Dana White recently told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that the promotion is moving on from the rumored matchup.
“Yea, so the fight just didn’t happen,” explained White. “You know Conor… What Conor McGregor really wants is to fight Khabib. That’s the fight Conor really wants.”
Conor McGregor was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 229 this past October in Las Vegas.
Dana White continued:
“So, let Conor McGregor figure out what’s next. But in the meanwhile, ‘Cowboy’ was just in my office, and you know him. He wants to fight. He’s ready to fight again.”
Donald Cerrone most recently competed at January’s UFC on ESPN+ event, where he finished Alex Hernandez.
“So we are looking at another opponent (for Cerrone).” Dane White concluded. “We are looking at maybe him and ‘Raging Al’.”
Al Iaquinta has been calling for a fight with Tony Ferguson in recent days, but maybe a showdown with “Cowboy” will be enough to lure the Long Island native back into the cage.
As for Conor McGregor, asked when fight fans could anticipate the Irish stars return, Dana White responded with the following.
“We’ll see Conor fight probably in the fall.”
