Irish newspapers reveal Conor McGregor’s “personal” announcement
Ahead of UFC 205 on November 12th, UFC President Dana White revealed that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will be making a “personal” announcement “out of left field”.
Of course, fans immediately began speculating as to what the announcement could be, given that the fight is arguably the biggest in UFC history. Reports began to emerge that McGregor was going to take around a year off to mend relationships with family members that had been strained by his busy work schedule. While there had been no word from McGregor himself, reports then began to emerge from people in McGregor’s camp stating that he would be taking a year off from fighting to help his girlfriend, Dee Devlin with the upcoming birth of their first child.
Now, Irish newspapers have gotten ahold of the story, reporting that ‘Notorious’ will be stepping away from the Octagon for around a year to “settle down” after UFC 205, citing McGregor’s “pals” as the source of their news.

The fight is certainly a massive one for not only the UFC, but also McGregor, who stands to become the first ever simultaneous two-division UFC champion with a win over UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at the event. In addition, McGregor could become just the third man in UFC history to become a two-division champion, behind Randy Couture and BJ Penn.
It’s interesting to note that the headline in the Irish paper points out that McGregor could take two years off before returning to “name his price,” given that McGregor briefly ‘retired’ prior to UFC 200, leaving the UFC no choice but to cancel his rematch with Nate Diaz. McGregor was quick to reveal that he wasn’t retired, and when he returned to the Octagon at UFC 202 for his rematch with Diaz, he not only avenged his UFC 196 loss, but also managed to break Pay-Per View records with the number of Pay-Per View buys the event did, breaking the record previously held by UFC 100.
Only time will tell what McGregor’s personal announcement is, but at the present time, all signs point to the Irish superstar taking a hiatus from the Octagon.
