Paddy Pimblett opens up on “dream fight” with Conor McGregor: “I’d put him on his back”
UFC lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett has named Conor McGregor his dream fight.
‘The Baddy’ has been out of action since a unanimous decision victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 296 in December. The victory snapped a yearlong hiatus for Paddy Pimblett, spending most of 2023 out due to injury. As of now, the lightweight contender is hoping for a return in the summer but hasn’t been linked to any date or opponent.
Paddy Pimblett recently appeared in an interview with Rob Moore, on his YouTube channel. There, ‘The Baddy’ was asked about his future, and also who he would face in a “dream fight”. In the interview, Pimblett revealed that his ideal bout would be headlining a card at Anfield Stadium, against Conor McGregor.
As of now, ‘The Notorious’ is still working towards his UFC return. Much like Paddy Pimblett, Conor McGregor took a long hiatus due to injury. However, the former two-weight world champion is hoping to face Michael Chandler this summer. However, Dana White has pushed back on that timeline a little bit. Instead, the promoter is looking to book the former champion’s return in the fall.
Speaking in the interview, Pimblett didn’t state that he expects to get the bout anytime soon. However, the Liverpool-based fighter stated that he’s confident that he can defeat Conor McGregor if they ever do clash.

“Someone in Anfield [Stadium]. A dream fight, probably Conor lad because you’ll get paid more than anyone else fighting him.” Paddy Pimblett stated in the interview with Rob Moore when asked what his MMA dream fight is. “So, I would probably have to say him. Anything can happen, lad, you know what I mean? So.”
Later in the interview, Paddy Pimblett was asked what his game plan would be against Conor McGregor. There, ‘The Baddy’ declined to give too much away. However, the lightweight contender added that he would try and put the Irishman on his back.
“Obviously, he’s a sniper. I would put him on his back and submit him. They might [want that fight], we’ll see in the future. You never know.”
Talk of a fight between Paddy Pimblett and Conor McGregor doesn’t come as a big surprise. Since the British fighter’s UFC debut in 2021, ‘The Baddy’ has been repeatedly compared to ‘The Notorious’ by many. However, those comparisons have quieted down in the last year or two.
