Dustin Poirier hints that a win over UFC champion Charles Oliveira could result in his retirement

Dustin Poirier is expected to be the first fighter to challenge newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. After falling short in his effort to dethrone former lightweight kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242, ‘The Diamond’ has since gone on to win three fights in a row.

Dustin Poirier admittedly felt the effects of Conor McGregor’s leg kicks after UFC 264, suggesting that he had never left a fight week so sore. Poirier and McGregor collided for a third time in the headliner of last months UFC pay-per-view event, with ‘The Diamond’ once again emerging victorious. While the fight only last one round, ‘The Diamond’ says the leg kicks he received from ‘Notorious’ during their trilogy definitely left a mark.

Conor McGregor is set to return to his Dublin roots in order to compete in a charity wheelchair boxing match. Just a few short weeks ago McGregor competed in the main event of UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier as their thrilling trilogy came to an end. Despite the Irishman coming forward with real purpose, he ultimately came up short as a result of a broken leg in the dying seconds of the first round.

A Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor rematch was shot down by Ali Abdelaziz, who says “Conor is not even a high-level fighter anymore.” Nurmagomedov and McGregor were involved in the biggest pay-per-view blockbuster fight in UFC history when they met back at UFC 229 in October 2018, as the fight sold a UFC record 2.4 million pay-per-view buys. But despite the fight being a complete blowout for Nurmagomedov, there have always been suggestions that a rematch could happen one day just because of how much money is involved. However, with Nurmagomedov now retired from MMA and with McGregor coming off of back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier, we have never seen these two legends of the sport farther apart, and a rematch seems unlikely.

Daniel Cormier was quick to pick up the phone and check in on his longtime friend Khabib Nurmagomedov following a recent post by Conor McGregor. Earlier this week McGregor took to Twitter with a number of tweets that have since been deleted. During the online rampage, the Irishman not only took aim at Dustin Poirier and his wife Jolie, but also sent out a cryptic message that appeared to be aimed at his longtime nemesis Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Joe Rogan has explained why he decided to interview Conor McGregor after his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. In the lead-up to the fight, McGregor had a lot of harsh words for Poirier and continued after the fight. In the opening round, of the scrap, McGregor had some moments but Poirier took him down and controlled him until with seconds left they got back to their feet and when the Irishman threw a punch he broke his leg. After the result of the fight was read, Rogan went over to McGregor and interviewed him which many criticized, especially after what the Irishman said.

Jake Paul has claimed that his team are already in touch with Conor McGregor’s camp ahead of a potential boxing showdown. For months now we’ve seen Paul pester McGregor on social media in an attempt to lure him into a big money fight. At the start of his campaign it seemed pretty unlikely that any kind of match-up would come to fruition – but if he can knock Tyron Woodley out, McGregor’s first move after recovering from his recent leg break could be to finally take “The Problem Child” up on his offer.

Conor McGregor’s close friend and training partner Artem Lobov believes the Irishman’s recent post-fight interview shouldn’t have happened. Back at UFC 264, McGregor was once again beaten by Dustin Poirier – this time as a result of a doctor stoppage due to a broken leg. After Poirier was interviewed by Joe Rogan, the UFC production team seemingly thought it’d be a good idea to go over and also speak with Conor, which didn’t end well.

The UFC Vegas 31 rankings update has dropped, and lightweight Islam Makhachev moved to No. 4 at 155lbs while Conor McGregor dropped to No. 9. Makhachev was the No. 9 ranked lightweight going into his main event matchup against No. 14 ranked Thiago Moises at last weekend’s UFC Vegas 31 event. After defeating Moises in the fourth round by submission to pick up his eighth straight win, the rankers rewarded the Russian for his long winning streak by bumping him up five spots all the way to No. 4 in the division. With Makhachev moving way up the rankings, someone else had to be bumped down. Tony Ferguson moved down to No. 6, Rafael dos Anjos moved to No. 7, and McGregor dropped all the way to No. 9. There was also a small swap at the bottom of the rankings as Arman Tsarukyan went to No. 14 and Moises fell down to the No. 15 spot.

Fellow UFC fighter Anthony Smith blasted Conor McGregor for making excuses following his loss to Dustin Poirier, saying “we are all injured.” McGregor lost via first-round TKO (doctor stoppage) to Poirier in their trilogy match at UFC 264, and afterwards, it has come out that he had a leg injury heading into the fight. Speaking on Sirius XM’s Fight Nation, Smith was asked about the reports of McGregor being hurt coming into the fight. For Smith, being injured is something that all MMA fighters have to deal with, and he believes that it’s not a valid excuse for McGregor.

Poirier defeated McGregor via first-round TKO (doctor stoppage) to win the trilogy between the two bitter rivals by a score of 2-1. In the wake of the trilogy fight, there have been some suggestions that the UFC could run the fight back for a fourth time because of the bizarre fashion in which it ended. However, if you ask Sonnen, the fourth fight between McGregor and Poirier is unnecessary based on what we have seen from them so far.
