After Poirier and McGregor agreed to a charity sparring match, the UFC came in and offered them to fight on January 23 which the Irishman accepted. Poirier, meanwhile, told the UFC to stop playing games and send him the contract.

The highly anticipated super-featherweight bout served as the headliner of Saturday’s Showtime PPV event and did not disappoint. Davis and Cruz went back and forth for the first five rounds in a seemingly competitive matchup. However, in round six Gervonta was able to find a home for a wicked left uppercut that sent his Mexican opponent crashing to the canvas in a state of unconsciousness.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor says that he is “interested in running it back” with former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. McGregor and Holloway fought back at UFC Fight Night 26 in August 2013 when both fighters were relatively new to the UFC. Although he was injured during the fight, McGregor was able to take Holloway down and control him on the mat for a rare grappling-based victory.
