It was a symbolic card for a number of reasons given it was the first time the UFC was in Madison Square Garden, and McGregor could become the first champ-champ in promotional history. It ended up being a historic night as the Irishman ended up TKO’ing Alvarez in the second round. McGregor dominated the fight from start to finish and dropped “The Underground King” three times in the fight en route to victory.

Five years just passed since Conor McGregor fought Diego Brandao at UFC Fight Night 46 in Dublin, Ireland. McGregor was still and up-and-coming featherweight at that point in time, and the first-round TKO win over Brandao helped legitimatize McGregor as a forced to be reckoned with at 145lbs in the Octagon. On the fifth-year anniversary of their fight, McGregor took to social media to tell his former foe that he thinks he should be back in the UFC. Brandao was released by the UFC in 2016, and has been fighting for promotions such as RIZIN and Fight Nights Global ever since then.

Forbes has released their 2019 highest-paid celebrity list (money earned from 2018) and there is only one MMA fighter on the list and that is Conor McGregor. The Irishman came in at 65 out of the 100 and earned an estimated $47 million. Forbes lists how he got that money which includes a $30 million payout from his UFC 229 fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov, after his base salary and pay-per-view bonuses. He also collected $5 million from Reebok and his whiskey company, Proper Twelve sold over 200,000 cases. He was also the 21st highest paid athlete for the year according to Forbes, even after fighting just once, and it is the fourth-straight year he is on that athlete-centric list.

Donald Cerrone says Conor McGregor won't sign contract to fight him

There have been rumors of a potential matchup between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone for quite some time now, but Cerrone says the reason the fight hasn’t been booked yet is because McGregor won’t sign the contract. Speaking to MMAjunkie.com Radio, Cerrone confirmed that he’s been close several times to signing a contract to fight McGregor, including a potential matchup back in 2016, when McGregor fought Nate Diaz at UFC 196 on short notice in place of Rafael dos Anjos. Diaz ended up winning that fight by submission and became a superstar in the process, and Cerrone still believes it should have been him who fought McGregor that night.
