Sparring partner opens up on possibility of Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather
While Conor McGregor is the UFC featherweight champion, and has never competed in a professional boxing match, a potential superfight with Floyd Mayweather has been the talk of the town so to speak.
While reports have emerged that the fight will go down in September, there has been no official announcement from either party, leading many to wonder if the fight will actually happen.
McGregor recently brought in boxing champion Chris van Heerden to train, leading many to wonder if McGregor was preparing for a fight with Mayweather. Interestingly enough, van Heerden is a southpaw…Mayweather isn’t. However, Nate Diaz is.
van Heerden spoke to Elie Eckbach:
“He searched for a southpaw. Mayweather’s not a southpaw.”
When asked what McGregor had to say about a Floyd Mayweather fight, van Heerden said:
“He laughed about it and he said ‘Mayweather started it and I’m going with it. And everyone wants it, so if it’s there I’m going to take it’. So that’s all he said and we all had a laugh about it”.
