White to meet with McGregor after baby is born to secure fight with Mayweather
While the MMA community has anxiously awaited word from up top regarding a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather superfight, While McGregor recently informed media members during a surprise appearance at the Madison Square Garden that a fight between he and Mayweather was “very close” to being finalized, there has been no word since as to whether or not progress has been made in negotiations.
Now, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto revealed during a recent appearance on SportsCenter that UFC President Dana White plans to meet with McGregor in May after the birth of McGregor’s child in order to “hammer out” a fight with Mayweather. This of course comes on the heels of White recently stating that given McGregor’s willingness to step up and take short notice fights in the UFC, he feels almost “obligated” to help McGregor secure a fight with Mayweather so that the UFC superstar can secure the life-changing payday that comes with fighting Mayweather.
“This kid steps up. He’ll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. A lot of people say it, very few really mean it. Conor McGregor, I call him the unicorn. I’ve never dealt with a kid like this.”
“So for him to have this kind of opportunity, to make this kind of money, this type of a fight that people are so interested in worldwide, I almost feel like I have to make it.”
“It’s a fight that people do want to see. It’s intriguing and obviously it’s a fight that Conor wants because financially it’s going to be massive for him,” White said. “McGregor, he’s a guy that I have a lot of respect for.
In the meantime, fans will continue to anxiously await news regarding what many consider to be potentially the biggest fight in the history of both boxing and MMA.
