Fresh off his win, UFC bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen has slammed Henry Cejudo. ‘The Sandman’ returned to the cage over the weekend in the main event of UFC Nashville. Originally slated to face Umar Nurmagomedov, Rob Font instead took the fight on short notice. In the makeshift main event, Cory Sandhagen dominated using his wrestling to secure a lopsided decision win.

Cory Sandhagen is headed for surgery after suffering injury during fight with Rob Font at UFC Nashville. It was just this past Saturday, August 5th at UFC Nashville, that saw Rob Font (20-7 MMA) get defeated by Cory Sandhagen (17-4 MMA) via unanimous decision. The catchweight main event result, while very positive for ‘Sandman’, has also left the fighter injured and in need of surgery.

Last weekend, Cory Sandhagen vs Rob Font served as the headliner for UFC Nashville. While many were hoping for a strong bantamweight main event, that wasn’t quite how things turned out. Instead, we had a grappling-heavy encounter with Sandhagen clearly coming out on top. As you can probably imagine, many weren’t happy with the outcome.

According to The Schmozone podcast, Nurmagomedov is out of the scrap and the UFC is now looking for a replacement to fight Sandhagen on short notice. UFC Nashville is set to go down on Saturday, August 5 which is just over two weeks ago, so whether or not the UFC will be able to find a short-notice opponent is uncertain.

Sandhagen was coming off a TKO doctor stoppage win over Song Yadong back in September, this after losing back-to-back fights to Petr Yan for the interim belt and a controversial split decision loss to TJ Dillashaw. Vera, meanwhile, was riding a four-fight winning streak and was coming off a KO win over Dominick Cruz.

Merab Dvalishvili appears to be more than willing to accept Cory Sandhagen’s challenge. Sandhagen was in action this past Saturday night (March 25). He went one-on-one with Marlon “Chito” Vera in the main event of UFC San Antonio. Sandhagen scored what appeared to be a decisive victory over Vera after five rounds of action, but judge Joel Ojeda turned in what many consider to be an egregious 48-47 score total in favor of “Chito.” Ojeda’s scores were overruled by the other two Octagon-side judges, and Sandhagen nabbed a split decision victory.
