Confirmed | Cris Cyborg will finally fight for UFC gold this July

Cris Cyborg

The most feared women’s fighter on the planet, Cris Cyborg, will finally receive her long-awaited shot at UFC gold this summer.

BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor has confirmed with sources close to the UFC that Cris Cyborg will fight for the UFC women’s featherweight title at UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, California.

At this point it remains uncertain if current UFC women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie will be vacating her title or if Cyborg’s fight at UFC 214 will be for an interim belt.

Regardless, the feared Brazilian striker, Cyborg, will finally be fighting for a UFC strap July 29 in Anaheim.

According to Taylor, current Invicta Featherweight champion Megan Anderson is the front runner to face Cyborg at UFC 214. However, the UFC is still currently exploring some other options.

Cris Cyborg vs. Megan Anderson

Since joining the UFC ranks in 2016, Cyborg has gone 2-0.

Cris Cyborg made her octagon debut at UFC 198 in May of 2016 against veteran Leslie Smith in a catchweight bout contested at 140-pounds.

Cyborg scored a quick win over Leslie Smith at the pay-per-view event, earning a TKO victory in just 81-seconds much to the delight of her hometown crowd in Curitiba, Brazil.

In her second UFC appearance, Justino squared off with Lina Lansberg in another catchweight fight that was once again contested at 140-pounds.

Although Lansberg proved to be a tough opponent, she was no match for the overwhelming power displayed by Cyborg who promptly finished Lina midway through the second-round of their event headlining scrap.

Prior to joining the UFC, Cristiane Justino competed under the Invicta FC fight banner on five occasions, winning the promotions featherweight title in July of 2013 by defeating Marloes Coenen via fourth-round TKO.

Cyborg would go on to defend her Invicta championship on three different occasions, all while fighting on her current UFC contract, scoring first-round knockout victories over Charmaine Tweet, Faith Van Duin and most recently Daria Ibragimova at ‘Invicta FC 15’ in January of 2016.
