Cris Cyborg: A loss is a tremendous opportunity
After UFC 193, Ronda Rousey admitted that she had suicidal thoughts following her brutal KO loss to Holly Holm.
While a loss is surely a tough thing for any fighter, Invicta FC Champion Cris Cyborg has a very unique perspective on a loss, and how fighters can use a loss as a positive opportunity.
She spoke to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports:
“A loss is an opportunity. It is a chance to see who your friends are. When you are winning and everything is going great, there are people who are glued to your hip and who want to be around you. But when you lose or when you fall in the rankings, they’re a lot of times the first ones to start throwing stones.
“I think the loss is a tremendous opportunity to see who is there for you and who truly believes in you. Her comments after the fight where she talked about suicide shocked me. To me, it shows evidence of weaknesses in her character. It shows you’re maybe small-minded. Losing is a part of sports, of fighting, and we all have to deal with that. She should have taken the loss as an opportunity to reevaluate things.”
There have been rumors of the UFC looking to put Cyborg on the UFC 198 pay-per view card in her hometown of Curitiba Brazil, however nothing has been made official yet.
