VIDEO | Cub Swanson seeks to punish Artem Lobov for calling him out
Tom Taylor - April 18, 2017
In late 2016, South Korean featherweight prospect Doo Ho Choi made a clever callout of long-time featherweight contender Cub Swanson. While this callout was quite civil, it served to reignite Swanson’s competitive fire, and gave him the motivation to deliver one of the best wins of his career: an unforgettable, tooth-and-nail decision triumph that left both him and Choi bruised and battered.
Cub Swanson gives his take on whether Artem Lobov actually belongs in the UFC
Tom Taylor - April 17, 2017
This weekend, in the main event of UFC Nashville, featherweight contender Cub Swanson will take on Russian-born Irishman Artem Lobov. Given that Swanson currently sits inside the featherweight top-5, and Lobov sits outside the top-15 with an undeniably unimpressive 13-12-1 overall record, the announcement of this fight caused more than a few head scratches. Yet Lobov asked for it, Swanson accepted, and here we are. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, host Ariel Helwani asked Swanson if he had seen the widespread opinions that Lobov doesn’t actually deserve to be in the UFC, and that he’s only made it to the big stage as a result of his association with MMA mega star Conor McGregor. Swanson then got talking on the subject, explaining that he believes Lobov is skilled, but that he hasn’t taken his career seriously, and that he probably has ridden McGregor’s coat tails to a degree.
UFC stars express interest in boxing vs. MMA pay-per-view
Tom Taylor - March 27, 2017
The biggest ongoing story in combat sports today surrounds a possible boxing mega-fight between transcendent MMA star Conor McGregor and boxing great Floyd Mayweather. For a time, of course, this potential showdown looked like a near impossibility. With each passing day, however, there seems to be more and more reason to believe a Mayweather vs. McGregor boxing match could actually happen. Were Mayweather and McGregor to meet in the boxing ring, it could safely be referred to as the biggest fight in combat sports history. Given this, it would also go down as one of the most lucrative fights – if not the most lucrative fight – in the history of fighting sports.
Artem Lobov rips "p**sies" with padded records
bjpenndotcom - March 23, 2017
On April 22nd, SBG Ireland’s very own Artem Lobov will have the biggest fight of his professional career as he fights #4 ranked featherweight Cub Swanson in a highly anticipated main event showdown. Ahead of the fight, Lobov, who holds a 13-12-1 professional record, and is currently on a 2-fight win streak, found himself criticizing fighters with padded records during a recent appearance on Submission Radio.
Contrary to Maia-Masvidal reports, Cub Swanson says he's still in the UFC Nashville main event
Tom Taylor - February 28, 2017
Late last week, reports of a massive welterweight contender bout between Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal began to surface. Though this fight has not yet been announced by the UFC, these reports suggested that this fight would serve as the main event of the UFC’s April 22 trip to Nashville, Tennessee. If this was indeed the case, this would mean that Cub Swanson’s recently announced featherweight battle with Artem Lobov would not serve as the main event, as originally expected. According to Swanson himself, however, his fight with Lobov will still serve as Nashville’s main event. The featherweight star has apparently confirmed this with the UFC.
Artem Lobov on Swanson booking: This is my kind of fight
Tom Taylor - February 13, 2017
Over the weekend, we learned that Conor McGregor training partner Artem Lobov had been granted the fight he’s been campaigning for: a scrap with the UFC’s fourth-raked featherweight, Cub Swanson. The two will headline the UFC’s upcoming trip to Nashville, Tennessee on April 22. Given that Swanson is soundly inside the featherweight top-5, and Lobov is not even ranked, many people consider this booking a bit of a head-scratcher. As Lobov explained in a recent interview with Peter Carroll of Newstalk, however, it makes perfect sense.

Last night, the UFC touched down in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the first time since September of 2013. The organization did so with UFC 206, a card that, despite being criticized for its lack of big names, produced some of the most memorable moments of the year. Some of the highlights of the card included Lando Vannata’s highlight reel, wheel kick knockout of John Makdessi, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone’s third-round head-kick destruction of Matt Brown, and Max Holloway’s interim featherweight title winning TKO of former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis. As exciting as all of these moments were, however, they all paled in comparison to Cub Swanson’s and Doo Ho Choi’s main card featherweight war.
Cub Swanson thrilled Conor McGregor isn't champion anymore
bjpenndotcom - December 10, 2016
Earlier this month, news surfaced that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor had relinquished his featherweight championship. While his reign as a simultaneous two-division champ was certainly a short one, the Irish superstar still holds the UFC lightweight championship. With the news of Conor McGregor relinquishing the title, interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo was promoted to the undisputed featherweight champion, and UFC 206’s co-main event bout between Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis was promoted to the main event, and made into an interim featherweight title fight. With that being said, Pettis missed weight by three pounds Friday afternoon, forcing the UFC to change the bout so that even with a victory, Pettis would be unable to claim the interim featherweight belt. While many fans criticized the UFC for forcing McGregor to relinquish a belt, only to have one of the main event fighters miss weight, UFC 206 fighter Cub Swanson is thrilled McGregor no longer reigns as the featherweight champ.
