Nurmagomedov, the UFC lightweight champion, retired after defending his belt with a second-round submission of Justin Gaethje in October. Despite that announcement, UFC President Dana White has been adamant that he’ll attempt to convince the champ to fight one more time in an effort to push his record to 30-0.

Chandler vs. Hooker is set to take place on the UFC 257 undercard, behind the main event between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. This bout between Chandler and Hooker was verbally agreed to previously and is now official, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, who notes several last-minute hurdles were cleared. UFC 257 takes place on January 23 on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

Following the win, many claimed the Brazilian should be one-half of a vacant title fight if Khabib Nurmagomedov is truly done. However, Hooker still doesn’t view Oliveira that highly.

The aforementioned Chandler has finally made the jump over to the Ultimate Fighting Championship and is expected to serve as the back-up fighter for UFC 254’s main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje.

UFC lightweight contender Dan Hooker is open to fighting Tony Ferguson after Dustin Poirier had contract talks fail with the promotion. UFC president Dana White recently said that an intriguing lightweight bout between Ferguson and Poirier was “probably” ticketed for UFC 254. Ferguson has already agreed to the fight but the promotion apparently cannot come to terms on a contract with Poirier and it’s not looking increasingly likely the UFC will move on from the matchup.

Hooker, 30, is hoping to get back into the Octagon sooner rather than later after his unanimous decision loss to Dustin Poirier back in June. Alas, despite the defeat, “Hangman” saw his stock rise significantly after a fight that was dubbed by many as a Fight of the Year contender.

Hooker is coming off of a “Fight of the Year” candidate against Dustin Poirier at UFC on ESPN 12 in a an epic fight that proved he’s among the elite of the lightweight division. Although Hooker lost the decision, he proved he can hang five rounds with one of the best lightweights of all time in Poirier, and Hooker’s stock arguably went up despite the loss.

Despite a spirited effort from the New Zealand native, Poirier was able to get the job done and score a huge unanimous decision victory to vault himself right back into title contention.
