Dana White confirms Igor Severino will be cut for biting André Lima at UFC Vegas 89: “He’s going to have real problems”
Dana White has confirmed that Igor Severino will be cut by the promotion for biting André Lima at tonight’s UFC Vegas 89 event.
Severino (8-1 MMA) and Lima (7-0 MMA) collided in the second scrap of tonight’s thirteen-bout fight card from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
During the second round of the contest, Severino had Lima’s back while standing near the cage and proceeded to bite André on the arm (see that here). Referee Chris Tognoni stepped in and after seeing the bite mark on André Lima’s arm and quickly proceeded to disqualify Igor Severino for his inexcusable actions.
Immediately following the shocking result, several pro fighters took to social media where some called for Dana White and the UFC to cut Igor Severino for his despicable actions.
Those calls were answered by the UFC CEO, who informed MMA journalist Kevin Iole that Severino’s UFC run began and ended this evening at the Apex.
“Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters,” Dana White said in a text message. “If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing u can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC.”
In addition to cutting Igor Severino for his inexcusable actions, Dana White also gifted André Lima with a “bite bonus”.
That’s according to a tweet from Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting, who shared the following news:
“According to Andre Lima’s manager Lucas Lutkus, Dana White told him after the fight he will give Lima the first “I Got Fucking Bit Bonus” 😂”
Do you agree with Dana White’s decision to cut Igor Severino from the UFC roster after he bit André Lima on the arm this evening in Las Vegas?
