Dana White fires back at Gegard Mousasi for pay complaints
Former Strikeforce champion Gegard Mousasi extended his current win streak to five in a row by earning a second-round TKO victory over former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at this past weekend’s UFC 210 event in Buffalo New York.
Gegard, who is now a free agent, is looking to get paid what he is worth in his next contract.
The surging middleweight contender, Mousasi, had the following to say about his recent UFC payouts at the UFC 210 post-fight press conference.
“Well I should get paid. I have defeated Jacare (Souza), I have defeated Mark Hunt, I have defeated Dan Henderson, I have defeated Vitor Belfort, I have defeated Weidman. Who else? All of these guys I have defeated and they are making more money than me. What is it? My nationality? Do you want me to dye my hair blonde? What the fuck? I am one of the best, so I should get paid as one of the best! So there is nothing wrong with me. Just pay me what I am worth. I am a fair guy. I am not asking for more than I deserve. You think I cannot beat Bisping? I cannot talk like him what is it?”
UFC President Dana White recently fired back at Gegard for his pay complaints stating the following. (as transcribed by BloodyElbow)
“Dan Henderson has been in the game forever. Mark Hunt has an entire country behind him. When we do fights in Australia, he sells out arenas. Gegard Mousasi isn’t selling out arenas,” White said.
He continued:
“That’s why you see guys like Bisping, different fighters from Brazil, Conor McGregor. When you have guys who have countries behind them, it’s a game-changer for them. Not everybody has that luxury.”
When asked if he still wanted Mousasi to re-sign with the company, White had the following to say:
“Listen, I’m a Gegard fan. I’m the one who who brought Gegard in here. I like the guy very much.”
