Dana White fires back at Tyron Woodley following UFC 209
In the main event of UFC 209, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley retained his welterweight strap in a rather controversial performance against welterweight #1 contender Stephen Thompson as he was awarded a majority decision.
Many, including UFC President Dana White scored the bout 3 rounds to 2, with Stephen Thompson being the winner. With that being said, the judges scorecards revealed that one judge scored the 5th round 10-8 for Tyron Woodley, resulting in that scorecard being a draw, rather than a decision for Stephen Thompson.
NSAC Executive Director Bob Bennett released a statement in which he stated that the 10-8 5th round scored for Woodley was “unacceptable”, which came after White revealed that he scored the bout for Thompson.
After Woodley took aim at the UFC President, Dana White has since fired back at the welterweight champ in an interview with TMZ, saying:
“Tyron Woodley came out and said he was going to destroy Thompson and there would be no question he was the champ. Well guess what? There’s questions again.”
“Let me tell you what…when you have a performance like you did at 209 and you get booed for 5 straight rounds and then people are booing so loud you can’t even do your interview, you should probably just take your lumps and move on. Get your next fight as fast as you can and try to put that performance behind you.”
“There’s one guy around here who calls the shots and as soon as you learn that, the better off you’ll be.”
This comes after White made comments last week regarding fighters calling for ‘money fights’. During that rant, White informed fighters that unless they bring in numbers comparable to those brought in by UFC superstar Conor McGregor, they have zero business asking for ‘money fights’.
