Dana White reveals opening fight for stacked UFC 300 fight card

Dana White has revealed the opening fight for UFC 300.

White has promised to make UFC 300 stacked from top-to-bottom and before UFC 296 he said the first fight of the night would blow people’s minds.

“If you look at the card (UFC 296) this weekend – this card’s awesome,” White told TNT Sports before UFC 296. “You wanna build these amazing cards that make people lose their minds. What’s gonna make UFC 300 more special than this Saturday night? You know what I mean? There’s a lot more that goes into it than just the card. What you can expect is the first prelim of the night, you’re going to go ‘Holy s**t! This is the first prelim of the night, this is insane, this isn’t even right. These two shouldn’t be on the first prelim on the night.’ That is how good 300 is going to be.”

Now, speaking at Radio Row on Wednesday, Dana White revealed the opening fight of UFC 300 which features a battle of former champions.

“It’s been challenging because obviously, I want to deliver the best card that’s ever been built. Every fight on the card right now could be a main event on either a Fight Night or a pay-per-view,” Dana White said to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I mean, we are opening the card, the first prelim of the night is Garbrandt and Figueiredo. What does that tell you?”

Having Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt open UFC 300 is a great way for the card to kick off as on paper, the fight should be violent and will excite fans from the get-go. As White says, it is a surprise to see either Figueiredo or Garbrandt be the first fight of the night given the two have headlined pay-per-view cards before and both are massive names.

Figueiredo is coming off a decision win over Rob Font back in December in his first fight at bantamweight. Garbrandt, meanwhile, scored a KO win over Brian Kelleher at UFC 296 to extend his win streak to two.
