In the highly anticipated headliner, “The Last Stylebender” defended his belt for the first time against the division’s “boogeyman”, Yoel Romero. “The Soldier of God” was riding a two-fight losing streak prior, and suffered a similar fate in his Adesanya showdown.

It appears that surging UFC light heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz will not be the next man to challenge current division kingpin Jon Jones. Blachowicz scored a viscous first-round knockout victory over Corey Anderson at last month’s UFC fight night event in Rio Rancho. The highlight reel finish served as Blachowicz’s third straight victory, this after he had previously notched wins over Luke Rockhold and Jacare Souza, and appeared to set him up for a future title shot with Jon Jones.

Former referee Big John McCarthy believes Dana White owes him a thank you — maybe even some butt-kissing. McCarthy has been instrumental in overseeing MMA fights since the sport’s early days. He made his officiating debut in the UFC at the promotion’s second show, all the way back 1994. Since then, he has gone on to referee iconic bouts including Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo, the shortest title bout in UFC history.

UFC President Dana White believes the novel coronavirus outbreak that’s currently sweeping the globe is “a serious problem” and assures that the promotion has been working diligently to determine how best to conduct business under the strain of this health crisis. “Everybody is fighting with the coronavirus,” White said during a media scrum ahead of UFC 248. “This thing started as a Chinese problem and it’s turned into a global problem. It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out through the rest of this year. This isn’t really a Chinese problem, it’s a global problem.

Earlier today UFC President Dana White revealed his intention to book a rematch between flyweight standouts Deiveson Figueiredo and Joseph Benavidez. The pair collided in last weekend’s UFC Norfolk event headliner with the promotions vacant 125-pound title on the line, but only for Benavidez to capture. That was due to the fact that Figueiredo missed weight for the bout by 2.5lbs.

The controversy stems from the fact that Aldo, while widely regarded as the best featherweight of all time, is on a two-fight skid, including a close decision loss to Marlon Moraes in his lone bantamweight fight.

Fury and Wilder both made extravagant walks to the ring for their Las Vegas rematch. Fury wore a crown and cape and was carried to the ring on a palanquin. Wilder, meanwhile, essentially walked out in a suit of armor, and later blamed his loss to Fury on the weight of this costume.

Earlier this week, TMZ spoke with the UFC’s reigning lightweight champion, Nurmagomedov (28-0 MMA), who suggested that the Ultimate Fighting Championship allows the Irish star to handpick his opponents.

The commission and those judging the fights were put on blast by longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan following the conclusion of Saturday night’s event.
