Alvarez, who will make his ONE Championship debut later this month in Tokyo, had recently referred to interim titles as “the saddest thing that could happen in the sport”.

We throw this young killer Hernandez at him, Cowboy’s the underdog and he goes in and does it the way he did it, then Conor’s fought everybody. If these two want to fight, I’m down.”

UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker was expected to defend his title against Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC 234 in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday night. In a devastating, fight-day twist of fate, however, Whittaker was forced out of this matchup with a hernia, and rushed into surgery on the very evening he was supposed to compete. Given that the middleweight champion has not fought since his June 2018 defeat of Yoel Romero — a win that technically didn’t register as a title defense because Romero missed weight — some members of the MMA community have wondered if he might be stripped of his title.

Back in January, UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov was finally punished for his role in the wild brawl that followed his UFC 229 victory over Conor McGregor. The Dagestani champion received a $500,000 fine and a nine-month suspension, which can be reduced to six months if he completes an anti-bullying PSA approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). Nurmagomedov will not be partaking in the NSAC’s proposed PSA — he recently made his thoughts on that quite clear. Furthermore, the champ claims he plans to sit out until November, standing in solidarity with his teammates Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, who were suspended for one year for their roles in the brawl.
Dana White announces UFC 234 will air on DirecTV after reaching agreement

Despite rumblings an agreement wouldn’t be reached, this Saturday’s UFC 234 card will air on DirecTV after all. That’s according to MMANews’ Damon Martin who notes that while the UFC has come to terms with DirecTV, they still need to sign a long term deal. DirecTV is the leader in pay-per-view distribution in the United States and is typically what would air in bars and restaurants. Prior to this agreement, the UFC was telling fans to purchase the pay-per View through UFC.tv, Amazon or in the Playstation or the XBOX store.
