UFC veteran Josh Thomson says Dana White could be next target of #MeToo movement

Tom Taylor - July 19, 2018

Earlier this month, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub became the latest in a long list of fighters to butt heads with UFC President Dana White — and boy, did they ever butt heads. According to former UFC lightweight Josh Thompson, Schaub probably won’t be the last fighter to find themselves embroiled in a public dispute with White, either. In fact, Thomson said White could become the latest public figure to be targeted by the #MeToo movement, which supports survivors of sexual assault and harassment, and exposes the perpetrators of these acts.

Brendan Schaub and four fighters that have beefed with Dana White

Jordy McElroy - July 18, 2018

Brendan Schaub drew a line in the sand with UFC President Dana White last Thursday in what might have been the most visceral social media clap-back of the year. A minor disagreement quickly escalated into all-out war between the UFC boss and former UFC heavyweight. It wasn’t the first time a former or current employee has raked White through the coals publically, and if history has taught us anything, it won’t be the last, either.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s52H5IHxZUY “There’s a reason [that] after I launched that tweet, that Instagram comment… There’s a reason why I had…I mean tons of fighters reach out to me. Tons of UFC employees reach out to me. Tons of employees from Reebok reach out to me, former fighters, media members. Why do you think that is? Cause everyone’s thinkin’ this: [Dana White] motivates by fear. That’s not a way to run a business. That’s not the way to do things, it’s 2018. You just can’t do that.

Francis Ngannou doesn't agree with Dana White saying he has an ego

Drake Riggs - July 16, 2018

UFC 226 was full of great fights. With the exception of one of the most anticipated ones not panning out at all how we expected. That fight being, of course, the heavyweight clash between usual knockout artists, Derrick Lewis and Francis Ngannou.

Dana White defends choice to give Brock Lesnar a title shot: "he beat Mark Hunt"

Tom Taylor - July 9, 2018

Moments after UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic to capture the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 226, we learned that his next fight will pit him against former UFC heavyweight champion and long-time WWE star Brock Lesnar. Cormier called Lesnar out, Lesnar lumbered into the cage, and the pair engaged in a heated confrontation complete with plenty of bravado, cussing and even a few shoves.

Opinion | Dana White says Francis Ngannou has an ego problem, but has he looked in the mirror?

Thomas Taylor - July 8, 2018

Note: The views expressed in this text are those of the author, and do not necessarily represent those of BJPENN.COM or its affiliates.  Derrick Lewis and Francis Ngannou’s UFC 226 heavyweight fight, which Lewis won by unanimous decision, was objectively terrible. Although the pre-card promotional material promised we were in for a collision of planetary proportions, what we got was a snore-inducing pseudo-fight.

Dana White opens up on Conor McGregor's immediate future

Tom Taylor - July 8, 2018

Over the last few weeks, there has been significant buzz about Conor McGregor’s possible return to the UFC’s Octagon — most likely for a lightweight title fight with reigning champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. According to UFC President Dana White, who addressed the media after Saturday’s UFC 226 card, these reports are little more than rumors.

Dana White gives his take on Derrick Lewis and Francis Ngannou's UFC 226 snoozer

Tom Taylor - July 8, 2018

From the early vantage point, Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis’s UFC 226 co-main event battle was anticipated in the way that we might anticipate two asteroids colliding. The matchup seemed to guarantee violent, Octagon-shaking chaos, no matter who won. In the end, however, we got one of the worst fights ever: a slow, action-free fight between two gun-shy heavyweights who looked more like line dancing partners than opponents.

Dana White has some choice words for CM Punk's haters

Tom Taylor - June 15, 2018

Last Saturday, in the first bout of the UFC 225 main card, former pro wrestler CM Punk stepped into the cage with Mike Jackson, keen to erase the memory of his disastrous MMA debut, in which he was thrashed to a first-round submission by Mickey Gall. Regrettably, Punk’s sophomore effort went no better than his first, as he was battered to a lopsided decision loss. In the wake of Punk’s latest lost, opinions on his MMA run have varied. Some admire his ambition and his heart. Others are more focused on the fact that he seems to lack the physical tools to cut in a cage fight. In the opinion of UFC President Dana White, you have to respect what the former pro wrestler attempted to do. If you don’t, well, you’re a “fucking idiot.”

Dana White: 'The whole Jon Jones thing drives me crazy'

Drake Riggs - June 14, 2018

July 29th, 2018 will mark a full year since Jon Jones last competed inside the Octagon. And his situation has still yet to get a clear resolution. The 30-year-old 22-1 former light heavyweight champion just hasn’t been able to avoid troubles outside the cage since 2015. The spiral began with the infamous hit-and-run incident that led to the first stripping of his title.

Contender Series season 2, week 1 results: Greg Hardy and Alonzo Menifield earn contracts

Drake Riggs - June 12, 2018

Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series is back and in week 1 of season 2, the prospects delivered with four of the five fights ending via KO/TKO. Two former NFL players, one pro debut. Greg Hardy and Austen Lane started the action very fast seeing Hardy pressing the action. An eye poke from Hardy halted the action shortly after. Lane followed it with some pressing jabs that got Hardy’s attention. Hardy continued to push forward and soon after landed a big right hook that staggered Lane before he landed a left hook to end the fight just under a minute and get the win in his pro debut.

Dana White shuts down Al Iaquinta vs. Justin Gaethje rumors

Tom Taylor - June 6, 2018

On a recent episode of his Call Me Al podcast, UFC lightweight Al Iaquinta suggested that a bout with fellow fan favorite Justin Gaethje was in the works for this summer. “We’re hoping for sometime in August,” Iaquinta said. “August, September. I think they wanted it to be sooner, but like, that guy needs a rest. I was looking out for his health with that one. He needs a break for a minute.”

MMA Community reacts to Dana White's plan to get rid of early weigh ins

Drake Riggs - June 5, 2018

It’s no secret that weight cutting is one of the more unique aspects of being a fighter and it’s not always the easiest thing to nail down. At least for some fighters. 2018 has gotten off to the wrong kind of hot start with more and more fighters missing weight than ever before. There is no concrete reason as to why but many have speculated and put the blame on the early morning weigh-ins that the California State Athletic Commission introduced in 2016. One of those people putting the blame on this weigh-in format is UFC president, Dana White.

Despite reconciliation with Yair Rodriguez, Dana White says more fighters will be cut for turning down fights

Tom Taylor - June 5, 2018

Last month, the UFC caused a tidal wave of controversy by cutting highly-regarded featherweight contender Yair Rodriguez, citing the fact that he had allegedly turned down consecutive fights with Ricardo Lamas and Zabit Magomedsharipov as the reason. In the end, of course, Rodriguez and the UFC were able to patch things up, and the Mexican featherweight is now expected to battle Magomedsharipov at UFC 228 this September. All the same, UFC President Dana White assures that, should any other fighters turn down multiple bout offers in the future, they can expect similar treatment.

Dana White updates on Artem Lobov's status in the UFC

Tom Taylor - June 5, 2018

Back in April, on the eve of UFC 223, Conor McGregor arrived in Brooklyn, and promptly went ballistic, throwing a dolly through the window of a shuttle bus carrying a number of the card’s fighters. While McGregor has been the main target of fan backlash following this incident, however, he did not act alone. He was accompanied by his long-time training partner Artem Lobov, who was subsequently pulled from his UFC 223 fight with Alex Caceres as a result. In the wake of this unfortunate incident, there was much speculation as to what the future would hold for Artem Lobov, who has lost his last two bouts in the Octagon. Some members of the MMA community have expected him to be released from the promotion.

Dana White defends decision to cut Yair Rodriguez

Tom Taylor - May 29, 2018

Earlier this month, red-hot UFC featherweight contender Yair Rodriguez was ejected from the UFC roster. The reason, we were told by UFC President Dana White, is that Rodriguez had turned down multiple fight offers. Apparently, that’s a no-no. Speaking at the UFC Liverpool post-fight press conference, White defended his decision to cut Rodriguez.

Dana White once again shares disappointment about Chuck Liddell comeback: I hope he doesn't fight

Tom Taylor - May 28, 2018

After eight years away from the cage, Chuck Liddell is making a comeback. The former UFC light heavyweight champion and UFC Hall-of-Famer is expected to rematch his former arch rival Tito Ortiz in Oscar De La Hoya’s new MMA promotion sometime later this year. Of course, not everyone is excited about this news.
