VIDEO | Dana White reveals shattering Mayweather vs McGregor pay-per-view buy numbers

Russell Ess - August 30, 2017

Many believed that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor would be the richest fight in the history of combat sports by breaking the 2015 records that Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio set in 2015. Although not a sellout for the attendance at the event, Floyd Mayweather said during the post-fight press conference that they did break the record for the gate and also the pay-per-view record he and Pacquiao set in their fight. “We did break the record tonight for the biggest gate,” Mayweather stated at the post-fight press conference via MMA Weekly. “Me and Pacquiao done $72 million. I think we done somewhere over $80 million in the live gate (with McGregor).”

Dana White makes interesting comparison between Conor McGregor and Chuck Liddell

Tom Taylor - August 24, 2017

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor‘s upcoming boxing showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is quite unprecedented. That said, it can be compared to a few other fights in the long and violent history of unarmed combat. One fight it is often compared to is Muhammed Ali’s 1976 battle with pro wrestler Antonio Inoki. Another it is compared to is boxer James Toney’s lone and disastrous mixed martial arts bout, which saw him abruptly tapped out by Randy Couture. In the opinion of UFC President Dana White, it’s also somewhat similar to former UFC light heavyweight champ Chuck Liddell’s sojourn into the PRIDE FC ring – unfamiliar territory for a fighter who’d cut his teeth in the cage.

Dana White might actually give Conor McGregor a stake in the UFC

Tom Taylor - August 23, 2017

Shortly after his UFC 205, lightweight-title-winning knockout of Eddie Alvarez, which sent his stock rocketing to new heights, UFC superstar Conor McGregor made an unprecedented demand: he, a fighter, wanted a piece of the UFC. “Where’s my share? Where’s my equity?” McGregor queried at the UFC 205 post-fight presser. “If I’m the one that’s bringing this, they’ve got to come talk to me now,” McGregor said. “I’ve got both belts, family on the way. If you want me to stick around, if you want me to keep doing (this), let’s talk. But I want the ownership now. I want the equal share. I want what I deserve, what I’ve earned.”

Dana White claims Showtime did not want their sparring footage of Conor McGregor vs Paulie Malignaggi

Russell Ess - August 16, 2017

If the beef wasn’t enough between Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi, bring in Dana White. White was the one to release a couple short clips of McGregor and Malignaggi’s second sparring match, which included the highly debated knockdown/push down. To follow things up after White posted the clips to his social media, the UFC President went on to say that Malignaggi left the camp “for his health because it was a 12-round, straight ass-whooping.”

Dana White: Paulie Malignaggi left Conor McGregor camp "for his health"

Tom Taylor - August 16, 2017

Paulie Malignaggi’s time as a part of Conor McGregor‘s training camp for Floyd Mayweather was brief. Just days into his work with McGregor, the former two-division boxing champ began feeling that he was being poorly portrayed by the Irish star and his entourage, and stormed out. At least, that’s the story Malignaggi has given. UFC President Dana White, who released some now infamous footage of McGregor dropping Malignaggi in a sparring session, offers a different telling of things. In his opinion, Malignaggi left team McGregor with his health in mind. In other words, he was being pieced up so badly in sparring that he left to spare himself from further punishment.

Former two-division boxing champ Paulie Malignaggi joined Conor McGregor‘s training camp with the intention of helping the Irish MMA star prepare for his boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Unfortunately, he left the camp after just a few sparring sessions, feeling that he’d been unfairly represented by the Irishman and his team. Not long thereafter, UFC President Dana White released footage that appeared to show McGregor dropping Malignaggi, confirming what McGregor and his camp had claimed, and poking holes in Malignaggi’s telling of the story.

Fabricio Werdum responds to criticism from Dana White

Tom Taylor - August 7, 2017

Last month, on the main card of UFC 213, former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum lost a majority decision to former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 champ Alistair Overeem. That said, Werdum very nearly won the fight in the third, when he visibly rocked his foe. Unfortunately, the decorated grappler opted to ground the fight, rather than attempt to polish him off on the feet. The stoppage win eluded him as a result. Post-fight, Werdum’s refusal to try to finish Overeem on the feet generated some backlash from UFC President Dana White:

Dana White and Tyron Woodley make peace after Woodley threatened to leak information

Russell Ess - August 1, 2017

UFC President Dana White was not happy with the UFC 214 welterweight title fight performance from Tyron Woodley, which took place over the weekend in Anaheim, California. White stated that Woodley and Maia set a record for the least amount of punches thrown in a five-round title fight. White also said that he thought Woodley could have taken some risks to finish Maia who had a very swollen eye from the first round that he likely could not see out of for the majority of the fight.
