Back in July, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier stepped up to the heavyweight division to battle reigning champion Stipe Miocic in an effort to become a two-division champion. Cormier succeeded on this mission, knocking Miocic out in the very first round. From there, Daniel Cormier was vocal about his hopes to defend both his light heavyweight and heavyweight belts. The plan, he said, was to drop back down to defend the light heavyweight title, and then defend his heavyweight title against Brock Lesnar. All of this before his planned retirement in March of 2019.

He could fight Tony Ferguson or Dustin Poirier. He could welcome Ben Askren to the UFC… Yet in the opinion of UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier, a long-time friend and training partner of Khabib Nurmagomedov, there’s currently only one fight to make for the undefeated Russian champion: a showdown with former welterweight and middleweight champ Georges St-Pierre.

Minutes after Daniel Cormier won the UFC light heavyweight title with a July knockout of Stipe Miocic, he was joined in the cage by former UFC heavyweight champ and long-time WWE star Brock Lesnar. Lesnar then shoved Cormier, causing chaos in the Octagon and adding some serious zest to their potential matchup. Although Daniel Cormier was then expected to fight Brock Lesnar next, he instead agreed to battle streaking contender Derrick Lewis in the UFC 230 main event on November 3.

On November 3, in the main event of UFC 230, UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight Daniel Cormier will attempt to defend that latter title against fearsome heavyweight knockout artist Derrick Lewis. Then, when Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson battle in the main event of UFC 232 on December 29, Cormier will be stripped of his light heavyweight title. At least, that’s the way the UFC is planning it.

UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is set to defend his title opposite Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 230 on November 3. If Cormier wins this fight, he’s expected to compete in an ultra-lucrative showdown with former champ and current WWE star Brock Lesnar in his next fight. That being said, any number of cruel twists of fate could deprive Daniel Cormier of this chance. He could lose his fight with Derrick Lewis. Worse still, his arch rival Jon Jones could defeat Alexander Gustafsson this December and move up to heavyweight for his own fight with Lesnar. Jones, after all, has campaigned for a fight with Lesnar in the past.

UFC heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier is set to defend his title against Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 230 on November 3 in New York. Cormier accepted this fight on short notice, agreeing to headlining honors after the UFC struggled for weeks to lock down a suitable main event for the card. Apparently, Daniel Cormier actually had some pretty interesting stuff going on too — stuff he put off to take this UFC 230 fight with Derrick Lewis.

UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was cage-side when all hell broke loose following the conclusion of UFC 229’s main event fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Immediately after forcing Conor McGregor to tapout in the fourth-round with a neck crank, “The Eagle” proceeded to leap out of the octagon in an attempt to attack the Irish stars teammate Dillon Danis.

At UFC 230, Daniel Cormier will defend his heavyweight belt for the very first time against Derrick Lewis. Lewis is coming off of a knockout win against Alexander Volkov at UFC 229. ‘The Black Beast’ took a beating against Volkov but is promising he is healthy ahead of his title fight against Cormier. Following his win, Lewis said ‘his balls was hot’ which made him gain hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram. With his star as bright as it will ever be, the UFC pounced on the opportunity and booked Lewis vs. Cormier to headline the Madison Square Garden card on November 3.

Given Cormier’s incredible dominance across two weight classes, and the way he matches up with Lewis, many fans and pundits are expecting the champion to have a relatively easy night of work at UFC 230.

Volkov had arguably dominated the first fourteen minutes of the fight, this before Lewis knocked him out with just seconds left on the clock in round three. Lewis did not only produce a fantastic finish at UFC 229, but his post-fight interview also gained him thousands of followers. With his stock as high as ever, the UFC has subsequently booked “The Black Beast” to challenge Daniel Cormier for the promotions heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden.

Next month’s UFC 230 pay-per-view event has seen a lot of changes over the past couple of weeks. The November 3 fight card, which takes place at Madison Square Garden Arena in New York City, recently received it’s main event in the form of a heavyweight title fight featuring current champion Daniel Cormier taking on perennial contender Derrick Lewis. The announcement came as a surprise to many, with Derrick Lewis having just competed earlier this month at UFC 229. However, Lewis gained a ton of publicity that evening in Las Vegas, this after scoring a last-second knockout win over Alexander Volkov which was immediately followed by his now infamous post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

After much scrambling, the UFC was finally able to lock down a UFC 230 main event that most fans to be happy with. The card will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between reigning champion Daniel Cormier and surging contender Derrick Lewis. Unfortunately, it took the promotion quite a while to arrive at this main event. That means that neither Cormier nor Lewis will have much in the way of time to prepare.

Conor McGregor has already done about as well as he can do against Khabib Nurmagomedov — and that certainly wasn’t enough.

On Friday night, in the main event of Bellator 207, Bellator light heavyweight champ Ryan Bader advanced to the finals of the promotion’s exciting Heavyweight Grand Prix with a win over Matt Mitrione. While Bader has looked pretty much unstoppable since joining the Bellator roster — in two divisions at that — he still regrets the fact that he never got the chance to fight UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier during his time as a UFC fighter. “I do think about that,” Bader told the media after Bellator 207 (via MMAjunkie). “We all are, ‘Woulda, coulda, shoulda.’ A big reason for me to come over is I believe I was the best in the world and never got the opportunity to show it [in the UFC]. Over here I did. It’s always there. I’m a competitor, I want to be the best in the world, not, ‘Oh yeah, but there’s another organization.’ Taking nothing away from him. He’s a dominant champion. He’s one of the best to ever do it. Of course I want it. But will that ever happen? No.”

At long last, UFC 230 finally has a main event. The card will be headlined by a last-minute heavyweight title fight between champion Daniel Cormier and streaking challenger Derrick Lewis. Not everybody, however, is happy about this title fight. Some members of the MMA community feel that Lewis is jumping the heavyweight contendership line, and that the next crack at Cormier’s title should have gone to Stipe Miocic, the man Cormier defeated to win the title.

Derrick Lewis earned an opportunity of a lifetime earlier this week when he was booked against heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 230. However it appears oddsmakers aren’t giving “The Black Beast” much of a chance. According to Bovada, Lewis opened as a +500 underdog (bet $100 to win $500) against Cormier who came in as a massive -800 betting favorite (bet $800 to win $100).
