Earlier this week, on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Yoel Romero’s manager Malki Kawa confirmed that, after a pair of weight-cutting blunders, the long-time middleweight contender plans to move to light heavyweight. The hope, Kawa said, was for Romero to meet Daniel Cormier in a light heavyweight title fight in his first fight back in the division. “So we are talking to UFC about him moving up to light heavyweight,” Kawa said. “And I think what we’re going to propose to them — well to be honest they offered us the Gustafsson fight and we accepted it. But Gustafsson needed to fight in August and Yoel wanted to fight later because he has to have surgery, he broke his orbital. So there are talks for him to fight at light heavyweight.”

Everyone has their eyes on the light heavyweight and heavyweight titleholder and that ranges from fans to fighters. It was the ever-lasting shadow of the bad boy former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones that everyone who consumed the UFC seemed to love and forgive no matter what. For the fans, there was nothing that Jones could do that would turn them away and through it all, his bitter rival stood across from him. That rival, Daniel Cormier, was a former Olympic medalist, a collegiate champion wrestler, a former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, and the only one standing in his way of the UFC light heavyweight championship was Jones.

UFC light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier’s incredible UFC 226 knockout defeat of Stipe Miocic, which earned him the UFC heavyweight title, generated reactions from a host of MMA stars. One fighter in particular, however, was quite quiet in the immediate fallout of Cormier’s big win: his arch rival, Jon Jones. In the days since Cormier’s incredible win, Jones has made a few comments on social media, but none have addressed Cormier directly. According to Jones’ manager Malki Kawa, however, Jones had plenty to say behind closed doors.

With his heavyweight title-winning knockout of Stipe Miocic in the rear-view, UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier can now look forward to a massive money-fight with former UFC champ and current WWE star Brock Lesnar. Cormier and Lesnar are expected to battle for the UFC heavyweight title sometime before the year is out. Lesnar receiving a UFC heavyweight title shot is controversial for a number of reasons. There’s the fact that he hasn’t fought since 2016, and the fact that he hasn’t legitimately won a fight since 2010. And then, of course, there’s the fact that Lesnar failed a drug test after his last fight, a 2016 no-contest with Mark Hunt.

Lesnar, the former champ and a current WWE star, then lumbered into the cage, where a heated confrontation ensued. There was trash talk, machismo, even a few shoves. While this heated, in-cage encounter will serve as a gold mine when the UFC is assembling promotional material for Cormier and Lesnar’s controversial title fight, it generated some significant criticism from the fans. Many onlookers felt it was a little too far removed from the bushido code of the martial arts, and a little too close to the testosterone-infused world of pro wrestling.

Cormier was able to catch Miocic with a big right hand that sent the Cleveland native crashing to the canvas.
