UFC 230 Results: Daniel Cormier submits Derrick Lewis (Highlights)

Tonight’s UFC 230 event in New York was headlined by a heavyweight title fight featuring current champion Daniel Cormier taking on surging division contender Derrick Lewis.

Daniel Cormier was last seen in action at July’s UFC 226 event where he scored a first-round knockout victory over Stipe Miocic to claim the promotions coveted heavyweight title.

Meanwhile, Derrick Lewis recently scored one of the greatest comeback wins in MMA history at UFC 229, defeating Alexander Volkov via knockout with just seconds remaining on the clock.

Round one begins of the UFC 230 main event begins and Derrick Lewis lands a pair of hard low kicks to start. He attempts a head kick but Daniel Cormier blocks it and then shoots in for a takedown. After a brief scuffle along the cage, “DC” gets “The Black Beast” to the floor and immediately moves to half guard. Cormier’s with a nice elbow from the position. The crowd boos in disproval of the ground game. Lewis attempts to get up but almost give up his neck. Cormier allows him to get back to his feet but still has Lewis pressed against the cage. “DC” with a single leg takedown now. He moves back to half guard and lands some short punches from top position. Just under ninety seconds remain in the fight. Cormier begins landing some big left hands. Lewis is covering up. Cormier attempts to lock in a rear-naked choke submission. Derrick Lewis scrambles free from the hold but Cormier is still on top of him. “DC” with some hammer fists before the horn sounds to end round one.

Round two of tonight’s UFC 230 headliner begins and Daniel Cormier starts things off with a kick to the body. Lewis fires back with a combination followed by a switch kick. “The Black Beast” leaps in with some big punches and appears to partially connect with a right hand. Cormier shoots in and scores a takedown. Lewis immediately jumps back up to his feet but remains pressed against the cage by the champion. “DC” with a nice knee from the position. He scores an ankle pick which forces Lewis to the floor. Derrick gives up his back and Cormier locks in a rear-naked choke. This one is all over folks.
