Darren Till has a message for "toxic" fans who are criticizing his title shot

Tom Taylor - July 26, 2018

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is now set to defend his title at UFC 228, on September 8 in Dallas — but not against interim champion Colby Covington. Instead, Woodley will attempt to defend against undefeated Liverpudlian Darren Till. While this is certainly a great matchup from a competitive standpoint, not everybody loves it. Many fans have been quick to criticize the UFC’s choice to give Till the opportunity, reminding that the Brit missed weight by a significant margin in his last fight, a May decision defeat of Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

The speculation for what’s in store for UFC 228’s headliner as well as the welterweight title picture has come to an end. After Darren Till’s initial hinting that interim champion Colby Covington wasn’t going to be able to fight before November, he called for a title fight with the undisputed champion Tyron Woodley.

Darren Till says he was offered a fight with Woodley, but Woodley turned it down

Tom Taylor - July 20, 2018

Earlier this week, the welterweight division was thrust into chaos. Reports surfaced that the UFC was contemplating a title fight between champion Tyron Woodley and undefeated contender Darren Till, and simultaneously stripping Colby Covington of the UFC interim welterweight title. The cause of all this, it was said, was Covington’s inability to fight Woodley at UFC 228 in September.  Well, from the sounds of it, things have gotten even more complicated since then.

Colby Covington still expects to unify titles vs Tyron Woodley despite needing recovery time

Drake Riggs - July 20, 2018

After Darren Till’s subtle early morning hinting yesterday, we soon got some truth to the matter. The welterweight division needs a title fight. Till claimed that interim champion at 170-pounds Colby Covington wasn’t going to be able to fight the undisputed champ, Tyron Woodley, where he, in turn, told the champion to ‘accept the fight’ with him.

Just when we think that the welterweight division has a clear path to move forward on atop the title scene, a wrench potentially could have been thrown in the mix. At UFC 225 early last month, Colby Covington captured interim UFC welterweight gold when he defeated the former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos by unanimous decision.

EXCLUSIVE | Stephen Thompson thinks it is bullcrap that Darren Till shot up the welterweight rankings after missing weight

Chris Taylor - June 16, 2018

Former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson (14-3-1 MMA) is coming off a controversial decision loss to Darren Till which occurred last month in Liverpool, England. The Thompson vs. Till fight, which headlined UFC Fight Night 130, almost didn’t happen after the Liverpool native badly missed weight by coming in 3.5 pounds over the non-title welterweight limit of 171-pounds.

Rafael dos Anjos doesn't think Darren Till will last long at welterweight

Tom Taylor - June 3, 2018

Last weekend, in the main event of UFC Liverpool, Darren Till picked up the biggest win of his career thus far, scoring a close decision victory over two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Regrettably, Till’s win was shadowed in controversy, as he missed weight for the bout, tipping the scales three and a half pounds over the 171-pound limit for non-title welterweight fights. In the opinion of Rafael dos Anjos, who will battle Colby Covington for the UFC interim welterweight title in the co-main event of UFC 225, Till’s struggles with the scale will probably eventually force him up to the 185-pound welterweight division. The recent  behind-the-scenes footage of Till’s weight-cut was all the proof dos Anjos needed to this end.

UFC rankings update: Darren Till surges up welterweight ranks, Michael Bisping exits at middleweight

Tom Taylor - June 1, 2018

The latest iteration of the UFC rankings include a number of interesting changes, as Michael Bisping has exited the middleweight rankings in the wake of his retirement, and Darren Till has surged up the welterweight rankings after his controversial UFC Liverpool defeat of Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. This latter move is rather controversial, given that Till did not make weight for the bout, and therefore it did not technically occur in the welterweight division. Here are the new UFC rankings (via MMAMania) Note: +/- = movement in rankings *NR = Not previously ranked

ABC boss "appalled" by Darren Till's weight-cut, calls for corner suspension: "They’re going to get him killed"

Tom Taylor - June 1, 2018

Last night, Darren Till’s sponsor Paddy Power released a behind-the-scenes video that showed just how brutal the fighter’s UFC Liverpool weight-cut was. In this video, a visibly depleted Till could be seen clambering around on all fours, while his corner mentioned that he had lost the ability to see. This video of Till’s harrowing weight-cut has already been wiped from the Internet, likely as the result of the tidal wave of controversy it created. All over the web, members of the MMA community voiced their concern, calling for Till to change weight classes, and for the widespread reform of weight-cutting policies.

Last night, in the main event of the UFC’s debut in Liverpool, England, two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson gave up a razor close decision to hometown hero Darren Till. Though Till landed more overall strikes and significant strikes, and scored the only knockdown of the fight, many onlookers felt Thompson did enough to earn the judges’ favor in this welterweight chess match. Thompson himself shares this opinion, but as always, has been pure class in defeat, and is determined not to take anything away from Till’s big win.

Tom Taylor - May 27, 2018

A key welterweight scrap featuring two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson (14-2-1) and undefeated contender Darren Till (16-0-1) headlined Sunday’s action-packed UFC Liverpool card. Darren Till missed weight for this main event battle, but “Wonderboy” agreed to continue on with the contest with the stipulations that he received 30% of Till’s purse, and that Till weighed in at 188 pounds or less at 1:00pm local time on fight day. After all of this pre-fight chaos, the fight went down as an absolute chess match, as the two world class strikers spent five incredibly close rounds attempting to figure one another out.

Tom Taylor - May 27, 2018

Yesterday afternoon, Darren Till missed weight for his UFC Liverpool headlining showdown with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, tipping the scales 3.5 pounds above the welterweight limit of 171 pounds. After a period of much confusion and speculation, we learned that the fight would go ahead as planned, so long as Till weighed in at less than 188 pounds at 1:00pm BST on Sunday. This, of course, meant that he would have to heavily control his rehydration process.
