Daniel Cormier: UFC should pay Demetrious Johnson a million dollars to fight Dillashaw
Tom Taylor - June 8, 2017
Over the last few weeks, UFC President Dana White has been pushing UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson to accept a fight with a slimmed down former bantamweight champion in TJ Dillashaw. Johnson, however, has some real reservations. He believes the next flyweight title shot should go to the established Ray Borg, and is reluctant to take any huge risks for the UFC President, who he recently divulged hasn’t treated him especially well. During a Wednesday night appearance on UFC Tonight, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier weighed in on this complicated UFC-Johnson-Dillashaw debacle. In his opinion, if the UFC wants to make this Johnson-Dillashaw happen they need to make it worth the flyweight champ’s while. Cormier believes a one million dollar payday should be enough in that regard.
Top flyweights weigh in on Demetrious Johnson's comments, possible closure of the division
Tom Taylor - June 7, 2017
One of the biggest stories of the week thus far has surrounded a scathing, tell-all statement released by UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. In this statement, the champ blasts the UFC and its president Dana White for attempting to force him into a fight with former bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw, rather than letting him fight established flyweight contender Ray Borg. It also criticizes the UFC for failing to promote his division or his fights in an adequate way. Finally, Johnson also claimed in the statement that White threatened to close the division if he didn’t play ball. Needless to say, it was not a particularly good look for White or the UFC.

Yesterday morning, UFC flyweight king Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson made waves by releasing a lengthy, anti-UFC statement, slamming the promotion and its president Dana White for trying to force him into a fight with former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. In this statement, the champ suggested that he was more interested in fighting established flyweight contender Ray Borg. Since then, Borg has weighed in on the situation. He says he’s gained respect for the champ for striving to fight flyweight contenders rather than seeking more lucrative fights with fighters from other divisions.

Tom Taylor - June 5, 2017
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is the most dominant champion in MMA today. He’s also one of the most frustrated. Demetrious Johnson, TJ Dillashaw and Ray Borg weigh in on complicated situation at flyweight
Tom Taylor - May 24, 2017
Yesterday, we learned that UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt was indeed out of UFC 213, which left his planned opponent TJ Dillashaw without an opponent. With this unfortunate news, an opportunistic Dillashaw re-upped on his previous claims, suggesting that he is keen to drop to flyweight to challenge dominant champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson for his belt. Apparently, the UFC is into this idea, and the fight is being seriously considered as the main event of UFC 215 this August in Seattle (in Johnson’s native Washington). While the world seems to be drooling over the possibility of a Dillashaw vs. Johnson flyweight title fight, however, Johnson himself is not so keen on the fight, as he feels Dillashaw would be skipping the line at flyweight. In his opinion, the streaking Ray Borg might be a more fitting opponent for his next defense.

Ray Borg plans to channel Chris Weidman when he fights Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson
Tom Taylor - May 22, 2017
Earlier this year, in the main event of the UFC’s recent trip to Kansas City, Missouri, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson defended his title for a whopping tenth-straight time. With this successful defense, which saw him submit BJJ blackbelt Wilson Reis, he tied Anderson Silva’s record for the most consecutive title defenses in UFC history. He now hopes to break that record. At the moment, the opponent for Johnson’s next title fight is not yet known. While bantamweights Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw have both been suggested as options, the most likely choice seems to be flyweight contender Ray Borg.

bjpenndotcom - May 19, 2017
Earlier this year, former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw learned that he would be stepping into the Octagon to fight his former teammate Cody Garbrandt for the UFC bantamweight title. While the pair coached opposite one another on The Ultimate Fighter, it was revealed recently that Garbrandt would be heading to Germany to undergo a procedure on his back. While UFC President Dana White was confident Garbrandt would be healed due to the fact that he sent ‘No Love’ to his doctor in Germany, the UFC President revealed that a backup plan was in the works. Should Garbrandt be unable to fight Dillashaw on July 8th, the UFC will look to book a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and TJ Dillashaw.
Demetrious Johnson goes off on Ronda Rousey: "Grow the f**k up"
bjpenndotcom - May 18, 2017
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson has earned the reputation as one of the most polite and well spoken UFC fighters on the roster today. Johnson, who rarely engages in any form of trash talk, seemed to really come out of his shell during a recent interview when he didn’t hesitate to give former Ronda Rousey some tough love. Rousey lost the women’s bantamweight title to Holly Holm at UFC 193 nearly two years ago, marking the first defeat of her professional career. Following the loss, it was revealed that Rousey even went as far as to momentarily consider suicide immediately following the bout. While Rousey attempted to avenge the loss be reclaiming the belt over a year later, she was handed a one sided loss from Amanda Nunes.
TJ Dillashaw thinks super-fight with "Mighty Mouse" should be new UFC 214 main event
Tom Taylor - May 18, 2017
For the last few weeks, former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw has been operating under the assumption that he’ll be fighting reigning champ Cody Garbrandt at UFC 213 this July 8. Recently, however, news surfaced that Garbrandt is having some issues with his back, putting the pair’s UFC 213 fight in jeopardy. While this is obviously unfortunate news for Dillashaw, the former champ was quick to come up with a backup plan, suggesting that he’d be willing to drop to 125 pounds to challenge dominant champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson for flyweight gold.
Demetrious Johnson compares his pay to CM Punk's
bjpenndotcom - May 17, 2017
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson may arguably be the pound for pound kingpin, however Johnson hasn’t found the same superstardom as fighters such as Conor McGregor or Anderson Silva, despite reigning as the one and only UFC flyweight kingpin for five years now. While fighter pay is certainly one of the most controversial topics in MMA today, Demetrious Johnson didn’t shy away from discussing the topic during a recent interview with ESPN, when he spoke about CM Punk’s earnings in his UFC debut against Mickey Gall, where he lost in the first round:
Demetrious Johnson is hoping to set an unbreakable UFC record
Tom Taylor - May 16, 2017
Last month, in the main event of the UFC’s visit to Kansas City, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson – widely known as “Mighty Mouse” – defended his title with a submission defeat of BJJ blackbelt Wilson Reis. This marked the champ’s tenth straight defense of the UFC strawweight title, and tied Anderson Silva’s all-time record for consecutive title defenses. Given that Anderson Silva is no longer a UFC champion, and Johnson is looking more dominant than ever, he now has the opportunity to set a new record for consecutive title defenses with an eleventh straight defense. Johnson has made no secret of the fact that this is his plan – but he doesn’t plan on stopping at eleven.

Tom Taylor - April 24, 2017
Last weekend, on the undercard of UFC Fight Night 108 in Nashville, Tennessee, 23-year-old flyweight prospect Brandon Moreno dropped the far more experienced Dustin Ortiz with a head kick, then tapped him out with a rear-naked choke. With this win, the young flyweight star moved to 3-0 as a member of the UFC flyweight roster. In his first bout in the division, he shocked the world with a first-round submission over the ever-dangerous Louis Smolka. In his next outing, he built on his momentum with a split win over the tough Ryan Benoit. Now, with this latest win over Ortiz, he stands out as one of the fastest rising stars in the talent starved flyweight division.
