Demian Maia turned down Jorge Masvidal fight, Magny wants in
Fresh off his ‘UFC Fight Night: Denver’ win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone this past weekend, Jorge Masvidal is already being linked to other matchups. After UFC President Dana White revealed that he had offered Demian Maia a fight with Masvidal, it didn’t take long for Masvidal to reveal that Maia turned the fight down:
“People are already turning fights down. Demian Maia didn’t want this. They offered him the fight, and he didn’t want it. I guess he wants to sit out. So I want to fight these top-10 dudes. Give me the toughest dudes you’ve got.”
When asked who else he would like to fight, Masvidal was quick to go at a top ranked welterweight who wants to fight him:
“I’ll tell who you I don’t like, because when I called him out with some respectful (expletive), like, hey, your opponent fell out and I’m ready to fight, he was a coward, saying I didn’t have enough pictures on social media, and who the (expletive) am I,” Masvidal said. “And now, he’s dying to fight me – that little wimp Magny.”
“It’s not that he turned me down – it was the way he said it,” Masvidal said. “Acting like he didn’t know who I was, and now he knows who I am? Get the (expletive) out of here.”
While Masvidal is riding an impressive 3-fight win streak that most recently saw him KO Donald Cerrone at ‘UFC Fight Night: Denver’ last weekend, Magny is coming off an impressive UFC 200 win over former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks that saw him return to the win column after a TKO loss to Lorenz Larkin at UFC 202 snapped his 3-fight win streak.
Only time will tell if these two will end up stepping in the Octagon together.
